SECTION WEAKNESSES SUGGESTIONS

A 1. Lack of vocabulary. e.g. nouns and verbs.

Introduce the relevant vocabulary pertaining to the topics.

2. Memorizing sentences drilled by the language teacher.e.g. unable to express the ideas in their own words.

Pupils should be taught to apply the language. Do parallel writing .

3. Constructing sentences without understanding the meaning of the words given.e.g. wrong word used.

Do not use words if pupils do not understand.

4. The sentences were written in the form of a story.e.g. 1. Last Sunday,Puan Aini went to the shop with her family. 2. They saw many toys. ……….

Stern reminder.

5. Irrelevant ideas to the stimulus given.e.g. The boy is sitting on the chair. (bench)

Alert the pupils to be observant.

6. Inappropriate use of similes and adjectivese.g. The pretty gorgeous lady…….( In the illustration, the lady does not look gorgeous.)

Avoid using inappropriate similes and adjectives.

7. Omitting verbs- to- be when using the Present Continuous Tense.e.g. The boy standing…..(Omission of “is”)

Frequent grammar practices.

8. Using “while” without a complement.e.g. The boy is standing while smiling.

Pupils should be taught the usage of ‘while’ correctly.

9. Over congested ideas in the Pupils should organize their ideas

Encourage pupils to think out of the box.Eg. I would choose goldfish because rearing fish is my hobby. Keeping fish is my hobby since I was a little girl.

2. Pupils could not give logical reasons.e.g. It is reasonable and affordable.

Allow pupils to elaborate their own thoughts rather than following the sample answers given.

3. Elaboration on the reason for key point is lacking. This deprives pupils of getting higher bands.

Encourage the pupils to use conjunctions .. Eg. because, so, and, but etc.

1. Emphasize the teaching of grammar especially on tenses.

2. Get pupils to think out of box and do creative writing.

3. Encourage pupils to do extensive reading.

4. Conduct parallel writing in the lesson.

5. Conduct brainstorming session to elicit ideas from pupils.

6. Guided writing should be introduced in the lesson.

7. Pupils are encouraged to do Process Writing.
