Stewardship of Prayer . We fulfill our obligation to unite with one another in prayer. Prayers are powerful and important for those in our parish community who are ill or need our support. In an effort to ensure our prayer request list is up to date, at the end of each month we will remove anyone from the list for whom we do not have a current request. Thank you for your cooperation and your prayers for our parishioners in need.

Sunday, November 3 — Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Wis 11:22—12:2; Ps 145:1-2, 8-9, 10-11, 13, 14; 2 Thes 1:11—2:2; Lk 19:1-10 The Lord is full of mercy and compassion, slow to anger and of great kindness. He has come to search out and save what was lost. Let us be more concerned with doing the Lord’s work than with idle speculation about when he will come again. Monday, November 4 – Memorial of Saint Charles Borromeo, Bishop Charles Borromeo died on November 3, 1584 at the age of froty-six. He was cardinal and secretary of state at age twenty-two for his uncle, Pope Pius IV. Charles Borromeo implemented reforms of Trent in his diocese of Milan. He was founder of seminaries, and was considered a model pastor by many bishops, including Sdaiant Frances de Sales (24 January). Charles Borromeo held five provincial councils and eleven diocesan synods. He is patron saint of catechists and catechumens. Rom 11:29-36; Ps 69:30-31, 33-34, 36; Lk 14:12-14 Tuesday, November 5 – Weekday in Ordinary Time Rom 12:5-16ab; Ps 131:1bcde, 2, 3; Lk 14:15-24 Wednesday, November 6 – Weekday in Ordinary Time Rom 13:8-10; Ps 112: 1b-2, 4-5, 9; Lk 14:25-33 Thursday, November 7 – Weekday in Ordinary Time Rom 14:7-12; Ps 27:1bcde, 4, 13-14; Lk 15:1-10 Friday, November 8 – Weekday in Ordinary Time Rom 15:14-21; Ps 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4; Lk 16:1-8 Saturday, November 9 — Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome Today marks the anniversary of the dedication of the cathedral church of Rome, on land owned by the Laterani family, by Pope Saint Sylvester I (31 December). The church was dedicated on November 9, 324 and it is honored as the episco-pal seat of the pope as bishop of Rome. According to an inscription which Pope Clement XII (1730-1740) placed there, this church is “the mother and head of all churches of Rome and the world” (“omnium ecclesiarum Urbis et Orbis mater et caput”. The church had been a residence of the popes from the 4th century until their moving to Avignon in 1309. It has been the site of five ecumenical councils. Pope InnocentX commissioned the present structure in 1646; beneath its high altar rests the remains of the small wooden table on which, according to tradition, Saint Peter celebrated Mass. The church was dedicated to the Savior, and later to John the Baptist. Ez 47:1-2, 8-9, 12; Ps 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9; 1 Cor 3:9c-11, 16-17; Jn 2:13-22

Sunday, November 10 — Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time 2 Mc 7:1-2, 9-14; Ps 17:1, 5-6, 8, 15; 2 Thes 2:16—3:5; Lk 20:27-38 or Lk 20:27, 34-38 In response to an attempt to ridicule his teaching about life after death, Jesus again proclaims a resurrection from the dead, that life is indeed stronger than death itself. This is our eternal consolation and hope. Then will our joy be truly fulfilled.

As Pope John Paul II said, “The responsibility for the semi-nary belongs to the entire Christian community”. We are blessed in this Archdio-

cese with over 46 men who are responding to a call for priestly ser-vice to the people of God in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Though this generous gift of God is a blessing for this Archdiocese, it does pose a challenge to us. These men need both our financial support and our prayers. Please provide a sound future for the seminarians here in the Archdiocese of Atlanta by giving generously to the Archdioce-san Seminarians’ Collection this weekend.

Second Collection for Seminarians — Segunda Colecta para Seminaristas

Next week, our parish will take up the Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS). The guid-ing mission of the AMS is to provide the sacraments—and the re-affirming Word of Christ—to the men and women serving in our armed forces, the patients in VA Medical Centers, the civilians working for the federal government beyond U.S. borders and the families of these individuals. To provide these services, they need your help—the AMS receives no federal funding.

Vocations Awareness Week — Semana de Concientización Vocacional

National Vocation Awareness Week, celebrated November 3-9, 2019, is an annual week-long celebration of the Cath-olic Church in the United States dedicated to promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our pray-ers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations. National Vocation Awareness Week began in 1976 when the U. S. bishops designated the 28th Sunday of the year for National Vocation Aware-ness Week. In 1997, this celebration was moved to coin-cide with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which falls on January 13 in 2013. Beginning in 2014, National Voca-tion Awareness Week was moved to the first full week of November.

6 Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time November 3, 2019

Jesus' love transforms all people and all things! Week of November 3, 2019 Listen to the Word (Luke 19:1 – 10) As you listen to the familiar story in today’s reading, what word or phrase catches your ear? What image from the story strikes you? Look into your life Question for children: Jesus showed that he loved Zacchaeus by having supper with him. How does Jesus show his love for you? Question for youth: Jesus saw Zaccheaus as he was – mis-takes and all. What masks, if any, do you hide behind so others won't see who you really are? Who do you trust to see your true self? Question for adults: Why do you suppose Jesus was so kind to Zacchaeus? What lesson do you draw from this reading regard-ing those who are considered "public sinners" today?

The Rite of Acceptance — El Rito de Aceptación

Next Sunday —Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens Next Sunday (November 10) a small group of young parishioners will celebrate the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechu-mens. The Rite of Acceptance is an ancient rite and a major step in the process of Christian initiation of adults, for it allows the in-quirers to publicly state their intention to continue their journey of conversion to Christ. This rite also allows the community of the faithful to recognize first, that there are people continually wishing to come to Christ; and second, that they (the faithful) as baptized Christians have a responsibility to support and be an example to those seeking Christ. It also gives the community the opportunity to reflect on their own baptism and journey of faith. Following there is the outline of the rite: Receiving the Candidates Gathering song Sign of the Cross and greeting Procession outside the Church to greet the candidates Greeting the candidates Opening dialogue asking what they seek Candidates’ acceptance of the Gospel Affirmation by sponsors and assembly and acceptance of the candidates by the Church Signing of candidates with the Cross Invitation to hear the Word of God Procession into the Church Liturgy of the Word Instruction of the Catechumens to prepare them for the Word First reading Psalm response Gospel acclamation and Gospel reading Homily Presentation of a Bible Intercessions for the Catechumens Prayer over the Catechumens Dismissal of the Catechumens Liturgy of the Eucharist
