Brief Intro to Book of Colossians
AUTHOR: Paul, the Apostle.
DATE: between A.D. 60-63 - Paul's imprisonment at Rome (Acts 28:16, 30-31)
TO WHOM: believers @ Colossae (1:2)
BY WHOM: Tychicus & Onesimus (4:7-9)
PURPOSE: To combat wrong teachings in the Colossae church esp regarding the Person & Lorship of Christ - “Colossian Heresy”
Colossae
1. Colossae smallest of 3 cities in the LycusValley – others Hierapolis & Laodicea.
2. About 100 miles from Ephesus
Epaphras – personally travelled 1500 km to consult Paul in Rome (4:12)
Philem 23 “Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you greetings....”
Paul had never visited Colossae (2:1) Most Probably founded by ?Epaphras (1:4-7; 4:12-
13) who is from Colossae...possibly meeting in Philemon’s home, who lived in Colossae (4:9 and Philemon 10)

Colossians 1:9-149 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we
have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill
you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual
wisdom and understanding.
10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life
worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way:
bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the
knowledge of God,
11 being strengthened with all power according to his
glorious might so that you may have
great endurance and patience, and joyfully

13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,
