Chairman’s Message

Dear Members We are now into year 2013 and I wish all members a Happy and Prosperous New Year. For the coming Lunar New Year, I hope the Water Snake will bring wealth, health and peace for all!

I would like to express my gratitude to all the members who participated in the Club’s Annual Dinner & Dance and I am sure most of you had a great time! This was the first time that the Club’s D&D was not held on the last day of the year. The Committee decided holding the D&D earlier as many members in the past had commented that they were unable to participate in previous years as there were many other places one would have liked to be at for the countdown to the New Year. It was a difficult decision but it showed that the Committee is brave to make changes for the better.

One chance for every Superior Room night & DOUBLE the chances for The Suite!

You may be aware that the Club encountered an underground pipe leakage and I am pleased to inform that the situation was expeditiously arrested despite the challenging circumstances when rectifying such an unforeseen problem. New water pipes shall be laid after the new year.

We also held a “Get To Know You” session with recent new members. We spent a casual morning taking a short walk on the Boardwalk and had light breakfast at the Café. Ideas and suggestions were shared and of course the concerns regarding the Club’s land lease renewal. At the moment, there is no definite development to report but rest assured we are committed and working hard to resolve it.

THE WEEKDAY CHOICE: BUSINESS VERSATILITY WITH SPORTING ELEGANCESleek and sober in design and supremely comfortable to wear, the all-purpose URBAN 7 (as in 7 days a week) fits every urban context. Like every TAG Heuer product, it is a marvel of leading-edge design and handcrafted workmanship. The brash design codes are straight from motor-sports and the composite materials — a very light and resistant polymer with mirrored or ‘soft-touch’ finishing — were first used in aeronautics. The anti-slip pads at the tips bring a bold flash of red to the all-black design while ensuring optimal hold — even under a motorcycle helmet for the ride home.

Swiss-engineered, French-manufactured, and extensively road tested, the URBAN7 is destined for businessmen who take risks, who are rebellious in spirit and not afraid to lead.

THE WEEKEND CHOICE: CASUAL VINTAGE STYLE FOR THE SERIOUS PLEASURE SEEKERThe groundbreaking AUTOMATIC SUN VINTAGE, a TAG Heuer best- seller worldwide, has a new urban edge. The classic lens shape is the same, as is the vintage mid-century motoring look. The straight elastomer temples easily fit perfectly under a racing helmet, and the upper bridge front bar has a handcrafted, perforated rubber cover like those on luxury sportscar steering wheels. The signature design feature, the patented “driver-friendly” temples — an advanced magnetic system in the frame’s hinge mechanism that allows the wearer to open and slip them on with one hand, while the other hand holds onto the wheel — is unrivalled for ease of use. The lines on the revamped version, however, are more fluid and cleaner, more in keeping with contemporary urban aesthetics. For dress-up and casual wear, they convey a relaxed masculine elegance, cool and in control.

Health Talk – Silent Killer Diseases by Singapore Prevent Health CentreOn Saturday, 17th November 2012, a Health Talk about Silent Killer Diseases was held at the Pool View Room by Mr Jonathan Tan from Singapore Prevent Health Centre. It was a 30-45 minutes talk to promote Nation’s Healthy Lifestyle Campaign on common illnesses which we may be facing such as Over Fatigue Syndrome, Heart Diseases, Heart Attack, High Blood Pressure, Kidney Failures,

Chronic, State of Depression and etc. We may not know that in our daily lives, our eating habits and occupation may affect our health conditions. With this talk, it will enable people to acquire a better knowledge on illnesses prevention and the benefits.

Interested in taking a more pro-active role in caring for your health? Look out for more up-coming workshops and talks.

For the very first time, the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival was celebrated with a twist, mixing East & West to the theme of Aloha Mid-Autumn! This brought the celebrations and fun not only to the kids but also for the adults too!

The event was held at the lower deck on Saturday, 29 September where the whole place was decorated with lanterns and with most of the participants came dressed in “Hawaiian Style”, the atmosphere was befitting the theme of the event with a breathtaking sunset backdrop!

After short speeches by Mrs Amy Teo, the Chairman of Social & Events and Mr Wilson Chua, the Club Chairman respectively, all were treated to a widespread of buffet dinner accompanied with songs from the 80s provided by the invited band.

After dinner, it was family programs where children made their own lanterns with the help of their parents followed by hula hoop games. The children were then separated from their parents and took a walk on the Boardwalk with their colorful lanterns lighting their way. Meanwhile, the adults were treated to a skit performed by the members of the Social Committee. It was followed by a “Pareo” Size-Me-Up cameo, teaching the different styles of wearing the pareo/sarong.

All present than “Xiang Yuet” (enjoying the full moon) with mooncakes and Chinese tea together with ukulele music and songs into the night. It was indeed a bonding, meaningful and relaxing evening!

CLUB HAPPENINGS

More than 100 participants participated in the extravagant event which is the Social Tea Dance III on Sunday afternoon, 11 November 2012. Looking glamorous and stunning, they entered the Chan Ah Kow Hall ready to groove to the music ranging from twist, cha cha, tango, line dance and many more.

As soon as the songs were played, everyone get on the dance floor and start showing off their moves. Even though there are some who did not dance, they still enjoyed themselves listening to the songs being played by DJ Jason Tan, while using this time to meet up and catch up with friends. Participants also enjoyed a delectable high tea buffet during the dance at 4pm to restore their energy before they continue dancing with their partners. Indeed, everyone looked like they had an enjoyable time as they exit through the doors with a smile after the dance has ended.

CLUB HAPPENINGS

Thirty six kids gathered for the Kids’ Christmas Party on Saturday, 15 December 2012 at the Café. The two and a half hour event started with the participants having their skin tattooed with stickers at point of registration. When all were accounted for, Santa Clause who the kids greeted with ecstasy made his appearance from the boardwalk. They exchanged greetings with Santa and received candy from him. When all the kids had calmed down, they tucked into their McDonalds Happy Meals and treated themselves to a free flow of candy floss!

Then followed games like “Bowling”, “Fishing” and “Don’t forget the lyrics” where every child got to play and compete with one another and won prizes. All of them then gathered and sang along to Christmas songs. The finale of the event was Santa handing out a gift to each participant followed by a photo taking session with Santa.

At the end of the party, the children left happily clutching their presents with their parents. For them, Christmas certainly started early.

Changi Beach Club held its annual Christmas Party on Saturday evening, 22 December. Participants gathered at the Deck Bar. Once most of the participants had registered, they were treated to a scrumptious buffet spread.

The new resident band, Richard & Lola sang Christmas Carols to create the mood and performed hits for the attendees to enjoy and dance through the night. The evening’s Emcee, Mr Patrick Tan orchestrated and cajoled the participants to participate in games like having ladies dress up their male partner as a bride using newspapers, toilet paper rolls and scotch tape. It was amazing to see how creative and artistic the ladies were as they fully utilised the materials provided and managed to make veils and puffy skirts. To the amusement of everyone, the “brides” had to perform a catwalk in their “gown”. “Catch No Ball’ game was also played but the highlight was certainly the Gangnam Dance Game where five “lucky” participants were selected to perform the Gangnam dance which proved to be a hilarious sight. The night ended with a Lucky Draw and ten lucky winners walked away with prizes.

CLUB HAPPENINGS

Instead of the traditional Countdown Dinner & Dance, we celebrated the Club’s 24th Anniversary by holding the Annual Dinner & Dance on 29 December 2012 in Sea Bliss Restaurant! This was decided because of feedback received that many were unable to attend on 31st due to other commitments like watching the fireworks with their family.

“Nite of Stars” was the theme for this year and many of the attendees were dressed in their glittering best and they made the most of the pre-event instant-photo booth to have their pictures taken.

The event was kicked off with short speeches by Mr Wilson Chua (Club Chairman) & Mrs Amy Teo (Social Committee Chairman) thanking all the invited guests, Convenors and the participants for attending, the generosity of the sponsors, the D&D Committee members and Club staff for making the event a success.

Emcee for the evening was Jason Tan, the ever popular DJ for our Social Tea Dance who took over and launched the event by announcing the start of a delectable eight-course Chinese Dinner. In between courses, all were entertained by Adil & Friends belting out favourite hits for all to enjoy and dance to with Jason hosting games in between bringing fun and a party mood to all.

At Showtime, everyone was hilariously entertained by a “Lydia Sum impersonator” who made fun

of selected participants. You can watch video clips of this and other photos of the evening in Changi Beach Club’s Facebook page. Do ‘Like’ Us when you visit it!

This year, there were two Lucky Draw categories one of which being the General Lucky Draw where all participants were included in the draw and a Members’ Draw which only principal members were entitled to participate. To maximise entertainment value for the evening, the 11th to 20th prizes for the General Lucky Draw was separately drawn by the Club’s Audit Sub-Committee members.

Before the Members’ Draw was conducted, everyone was pleasantly surprised by a short special Gangnam Style Dance performance by Social Committee members and Social staff. There were ten prizes for the Members’ Draw and the winners were drawn by the Club Chairman, Mr Wilson Chua. The first prize of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 went to Mr Lim Ngia Seng Jeffrey.

Close to midnight, a 4kg cake with the wordings “Happy 24th Anniversary Changi Beach Club” was carted out to the dance floor for the cake cutting ceremony by Mr Wilson Chua and Mrs Amy Teo. Mr Wilson Chua led everyone through three “yum sengs” to bless the Club with more good years to come. The top ten prizes for the General Draw followed and the 1st prize, a Samsung Tab II 7” P3100 was won by Ms Isabelle Quah. The night continued for the revellers who stayed back with more grooving on the dance floor.
