I have now drawn another figure below. Now, if this figure has the same perimeter as the two shapes that you have drawn, what is the missing length? Perimeter of the figure above is 22 cm This means: 3 cm + 5 cm + 5 cm + 3 cm + Missing Length = 22 cm (Sum up the known lengths first)

16 cm + ? cm = 22 cm

16 cm + 6 cm = 22 cm

Thus, the missing length is 6 cm.

(a)The perimeter of the figure below is 28 cm.

What is the length of each square unit?

Since there are 14 sides of square units,

Length of each square unit = 28 cm ÷ 14 = 2 cm

(b) The perimeter of the figure below is 54 cm.

What is the length of each square unit?

Since there are 18 sides of

10. A rectangle field measures 200 m by 120 m. (a) Thomas runs round the field a total of 4 times. What is the distance that he ran?

Perimeter of field = 1 round around the field

Perimeter = 200 m + 120 m + 200 m + 120 m

= 640 m

4 times round the field = 4 × 640 m

= 2560 m

Thomas ran 2560 m.

(b) His friend Jimmy runs along the length of the field a total of 12 times. Who ran a longer distance – Thomas or Jimmy?

Distance Jimmy ran = 12 × 200 m = 2400 m

Distance Thomas ran = 2560 m

Therefore, Thomas ran a longer distance.

and its perimeter is 50 cm.

The breadth of each rectangle is 2 cm.
