Holy Spirit Mission Statement
We, the Family of Faith at Holy Spirit, proclaim that by our Baptism we share in Christ’s mission as Priest, Prophet and King. We
recognize our responsibility to give worship to God, reverence to all people, respect to all creation and to share the Good News of
Jesus Christ. Acknowledging our own brokenness and our need to hope, we seek to be a forgiving and welcoming community
committed to service by the sharing of life and love with all, and working together to make peace and justice a reality in our world.
Strengthened by the presence of God in our lives, we undertake all of this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen. Alleluia

Faith and Good Works as we fight Coronavirus pandemic
The pain of watching the numbers and human corpses hauled into
cooling vans and trucks is becoming unbearable. But the war
against Coronavirus pandemic can only be won by being positive
through praying for one another, engaging in spiritual and corporal
works of mercy as could be attainable with the given
circumstances. A few things we have to ponder on from this
misfortune is that a common enemy has no boundaries. An
invisible enemy is no respecter of age and other socioeconomic
demographics and constructs by which we most often define
ourselves in normal times. We are all one human family! It is
unfortunate that it is only in times like this that some realize and
confess this reality.
Most Americans are still being asked to stay-at-home, work from
home, eat from home, school from home, shop from home, and
worship from home to curb the spread of the virus. Technically, we
are all grounded but we are connected through faith and solidarity.
Most of our streets and highways are virtually empty; no bumper-to
-bumper traffic rush hour, no irritating lane changes; no finger
pointing gestures, no under-the-breath expletives. Our eyes are
glued to television sets as we watch the unfolding horror.
As we grapple with this public health crisis, like the Good
Samaritan we must heed the call to be a good neighbor, and do
something to support our communities. The healthcare workers are
on the frontline as they take risks to save others. Many of them
have paid the supreme price. Several Good Samaritans have
taken the initiative to help in so many diverse ways. Beyond
cooperating with our leaders to enforce meaningful health-
enhancing measures, be creative in finding ways to help our ailing
communities and the most vulnerable among us. Definitely you can
pray together with someone over the phone, make masks, provide
food, place a call, and so on.
We must remain hopeful, appreciative and be thankful for the
commendable and selfless work of the healthcare workers, civic,
community, and religious leaders to guide us through this maze.
May I leave you with the words of the Holy Father, Pope Francis as
he leads the church through this crisis. These words can help us
focus and form points for prayer and reflections, and practical acts
of kindness as we stay united in the love of God and our neighbor
even when we seem overwhelmed.
Pope Francis: We are one human family. Let us bring all hostilities
to a halt. May our joint fight against the #COVID-19 pandemic bring
everyone to recognize the great need to reinforce brotherly and
sisterly bonds. #globalceasefire@antonioguterres @UN
Pope Francis: In these days we are beginning to see other
consequences of the pandemic. One is hunger. We're beginning to
see the aftermath. Let us #PrayTogether for the families who find
themselves in need and are already facing hunger due to the
pandemic. https://t.co/uFydbByThA
Pope Francis: In the #GospelOfTheDay (John11:1-45), Jesus tells
us: "I am the resurrection and the life... have faith. Amid grief,
continue to have faith, even when it seems that death has won. Let
the Word of God restore life where there is death.”
I urge you to challenge yourself and put your faith to work and be
an integral part of the war against Coronavirus. Beyond the call for
personal and civic conversion of heart and reconciliation with God,
make your contribution spurred by faith an essential service for the
good of your neighbor at this critical moment.

Guidelines Following Shelter-in-Place Order
March 24-April 3, 2020
The “Shelter in Place” order, which went into effect at 11:59
on March 23 and continues until 11:59 on April 3, has ne-
cessitated a number of changes for many people. Bishop
Burns takes the advice of civil authorities seriously and
wants to be an active participant in working to mitigate the
effects of COVID-19. For that reason, the following
guidelines will be in effect until April 4, 2020:
• Masses and other devotions will continue to be
livestreamed where possible. In addition to parishes, the
Diocese continues to publish live masses and recorded
events on the Diocese of Dallas website and local televi-
sion.
• There are to be no scheduled gatherings at the church or
on church grounds during this time period, although the
church building may remain physically open at times during
the daytime hours if this is practicable given the Shelter-in-
Place Order.
• Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is to be temporarily
suspended. Pastors should provide resources on the parish
website or elsewhere for private prayer and spiritual com-
munion. The Diocese of Dallas website also contains a
number of resources.
• Scheduled Confessions at the church are to be temporarily
suspended. Individual requests in person can be responded
to by the priest, understanding that the Shelter-in-Place Or-
der does not envision individuals traveling to churches, or
priests visiting homes outside of emergency situations.
FUNERALS/WAKES/VIEWINGS/COMMITTALS
• Funeral services will be limited to a graveside service with
immediate family only and should not exceed 10 people in
total, including the minister and the funeral director staff.
• Memorial Masses will be celebrated at a later date once
the crisis passes.
• It is strongly recommended that no one from a vulnerable
population attend a funeral service.
• Social distancing (six feet) should be observed with at-
tendees at all times.
• Wakes and Viewings will not be possible at this time

Don’t forget to check the Holy Spirit website...www.holyspiritcatholic.org...and the Children’s Faith Formation
page for each Sunday’s weekly lesson plan! Parents, because we know you’re already enjoying having to home-
school your kiddos for regular school...eye roll...we decided to make it easier for you by designing one lesson plan that can
be used for the whole family! You’ll find a variety of activities that correlate back to the original lesson plan theme that you
can pick and choose from that best fit the needs of your family. The lesson plan is not meant to add to your already
overwhelmingly long list of things to do; just an easy, fun way to help your family stay connected to their faith each week.
Be sure to post pictures or videos of your family working on the Sunday lesson plan to our parish Facebook page! I have
really enjoyed seeing families in action as they work on the lesson plans. And keep an eye out on a forthcoming vid-
eo from me!

THIS WEEK AT HOME
Monday, April 6
The Lord of Life
As Jesus ancipates his death, we noce a terrible irony. People want
to kill the one who raised a man from the dead. Moreover, Jesus is the
servant God sent into the world. The Father, who breathes life into
people and sustains creaon with his Spirit, sent his Son to lead people
out of darkness, to open their eyes and give them life. Although the
people will crucify this servant, he will rise from the dead. During the
Sacrament of Reconciliaon, confess the ways you have harmed
others. Today’s Readings: Isaiah 42:1–7; Psalm 27:1, 2, 3, 13–14; John
12:1–11.
Tuesday, April 7
Failures
When Jesus speaks of his glorificaon, he refers not only to being
raised up to new life but also to being raised up on the cross. He
undergoes his glorificaon as one friend betrays him and another
denies knowing him. Jesus is the servant who seems to have
accomplished nothing, to have failed in revealing his Father to the
world. As God declared to his servant, however, Jesus’ work has not
been in vain. Should you try again at something you had given up on?
Today’s Readings: Isaiah 49:1–6; Psalm 71:1–2, 3–4a, 5ab–6ab, 15 and
17; John 13:21–33, 36–38.
Wednesday, April 8
Facing It
We hear again from God’s servant, who perseveres in doing God’s will
despite offensive and painful mockery. As Jesus eats with his disciples
for the last me, he knows what he will endure because of his ministry,
yet he “sets his face like flint” and remains steadfast. Despite all that is
done to him, he will neither falter nor be ashamed. Is there a parcular
conflict you have been avoiding? How can you face it calmly and
prayerfully? Today’s Readings: Isaiah 50:4–9a; Psalm 69:8–10, 21–22,
31 and 33–34; Mahew 26:14–25.
Thursday, April 9
Holy Thursday
As Jesus celebrates the liberaon of his people from Egypt and the
many blessings God had bestowed, he prepares his disciples for the
blessings of eternal life that God bestows through him. To share in
this new life, we must be humble and selfless enough to give up the
lives we have now. Read and pray with John 17. Today’s Readings:
Exodus 12:1–8, 11–14; Psalm 116:12–13, 15–16bc, 17–18; 1
Corinthians 11:23–26; John 13:1–15.
Friday, April 10
Good Friday
God’s servant offers himself up for judgment. Like Pilate, our decision
about Jesus becomes a statement about us. We profess that Jesus is
God’s Son and our Savior, but have we followed his way, accepted his
truth, and welcomed his life? Surround yourself with as much silence
as you can today. Today’s Readings: Isaiah 52:13—53:12; Psalm 31:2,
6, 12–13, 15–16, 17, 25; Hebrews 4:14–16; 5:7–9; John 18:1—19:42.
Saturday, April 11
The Easter Vigil
Ancient texts are proclaimed to us this holy night, but even these
could not prepare people for the Resurrecon. Creaon again shakes
in fear and wonder, yet we are told not to be afraid but to embrace
our Risen Lord and to go quickly to share this joyous news. Today’s
Readings: Genesis 1:1—2:2 or 1:1, 26–31a; Psalm 104:1–2, 5–6, 10,
12, 13–14, 24, 35 or Psalm 33:4–5, 6–7, 12–13, 20–22; Genesis 22:1–
18 or 22:1–2, 9a, 10–13, 15–18; Psalm 16:5, 8, 9–10, 11; Exodus
14:15—15:1; Exodus 15:1–2, 3–4, 5–6, 17–18; Isaiah 54:5–14; Psalm
30:2, 4, 5–6, 11–12, 13; Isaiah 55:1–11; Isaiah 12:2–3, 4, 5–6; Baruch
3:9–15, 32—4:4; Psalm 19:8, 9, 10, 11; Ezekiel 36:16–17a, 18–28;
Psalm 42:3, 5; 43:3, 4 or Isaiah 12:2–3, 4bcd, 5–6 or Psalm 51:12–13,
14–15, 18–19; Romans 6:3–11; Psalm 118:1–2, 16–17, 22–23;
Mahew 28:1–10.
darles luz y vida nueva.
Cuando Jesús come
haya estado evitando? ¿Cómo puede enfrentarlo con calma y oración?
Lecturas del día: Isaías 50:4–9a; Salmo 69:8–10, 21–22, 31 y 33–34;
Mateo 26:14–25.
Jueves 9 de abril
Jueves Santo
Lea y ore con Juan 17. Lecturas del día: Éxodo 12:1–8, 11–14;
Salmo 116:12–13, 15–16 bc, 17–18; 1 Corin#os 11:23–26; Juan 13:1
–15.
Viernes, 10 de abril
Viernes Santo
silencio como pueda hoy. Lecturas del día: Isaías 52:13—53: 12;
Salmo 31:2, 6, 12–13, 15–16, 17, 25; Hebreos 4:14–16; 5:7–9; Juan
18:1—19:42.
55:1–11; Isaías 12:2–3, 4, 5–6; Baruc 3:9–15, 32—4:4; Salmo 19:8, 9, 10, 11;
Ezequiel 36:16–17a, 18–28; Salmo 42:3, 5; 43:3, 4 o Isaías 12:2–3, 4bcd, 5–6 o
Salmo 51:12–13, 14–15, 18–19; Romanos 6:3–11; Salmo 118:1–2, 16–17, 22–
23; Mateo 28:1–10.
