3 Thoughts on the Back Page in No Particular Order As a United Methodist church, we pay apportionments to the Annual Conference. St. Mark pays 100% of its apportionments each year. One of the line items is Congregational Development, which plants churches, revitalizes existing churches and purchases land for new churches. Congregational development is intentionally planning for the growth of the Kingdom of God. 20% of Congregational

funds are returned to the district to be used locally for revitalization and support.

RELAY For your donation of $10 for each bag, you can have a luminary placed around the track the night of Relay in honor or memory of someone affected by cancer. The forms and bags are available in the narthex for you to complete. Your decorated bag will need to be returned by May 12th. If you do not want to decorate your bag, we can do this for you, just let us know when you are completing the form. Please plan to come out the evening of Relay to hang out with your St. Mark family and walk the track. We have a signup sheet on the table in the Narthex so please pick a time to walk and help us keep the night going. Some of us will be there from 7 pm - 6 am and would love to see you at any point during the night/morning. For those that cannot join us, you can still help our evening to be a success. If individuals or groups would like to donate snacks, we will gladly accept! We usually have water, sodas, snacks of all kinds so that anyone walking can keep up their energy throughout the night. You can also go to the website, www.relayforlife.org to donate directly in our team name. Under Home, type in our zip 29407 and team name St. Mark UMC and you should be able to locate our team for your donation. We ask that all survivors please go to the website as soon as possible to register so that you will be sure to get your free survivor t-shirt. Remember there is a fabulous dinner in your honor the night of Relay with great prizes given away. You then kick off the evening with a walk or ride through a cheer tunnel and then go around the track (they have golf carts available for those survivors that cannot walk the track). This really is a fun evening and a great event supporting a wonderful cause. Please plan to participate in whatever way that you can.

Exegetical tidbit: In our text today, we will hear that : Lydia “prevailed upon” the disciples to come and stay at her house. The only other place that Greek verb is used in the entire New Testament is Luke 24:29, in the Emmaus road passage when the disciples prevail upon the risen Jesus to stay the night. The verbal echo suggests contact with Jesus inspires hospitality and fellowship. These could change the world.
