Be thoughtful, be silent, and be reverent, for this is the House of God. Before the service, speak to the Lord; during the service,

let the Lord speak to you; after the service, speak to one another.

M I N I S T R Y O F T H E W O R D

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and kindle in us the fire of Your Love. Send forth Your Spirit and we shall be created and You shall renew the face of the earth. O God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise, and ever rejoice in Your consolations, through Christ our Lord, Amen. PROCESSIONAL HYMN ………………………………………………………………. A&M 152 Above the starry spheres, To where He was before, Christ had gone up, the Father’s gift Upon the Church to pour. At length had fully come, On mystic circle borne Of seven times seven revolving days, The Pentecostal morn. When, as the Apostles knelt At the third hour in prayer, A sudden rushing sound proclaim’d That God Himself was there. Forthwith a tongue of fire Is seen on every brow, Each heart receives the Father’s light, The Word’s enkindling glow.

The Holy Ghost on all Is mightily outpour’d, Who straight in divers tongues declare The wonders of the Lord. While strangers of all climes Flock round from far and near, And their own tongue, wherever born, All with amazement hear. But Judah, faithless still, Denies the hand Divine; And, mocking, jeers the saints of Christ As full of new-made wine. Till Peter, in the midst, By Joel’s ancient word, Rebukes their unbelief, and wins Three thousand to the Lord.

The Father and the Son And Spirit we adore, O may the Spirit’s gifts be pour’d On us forevermore.

INTROIT HYMN ……………………..… “O LORD SEND YOUR POWER JUST NOW” They were in an upper chamber, They were all with one accord, When the Holy Ghost descended As was promised by the Lord. O Lord, send the power just now, O Lord, send the power just now; O Lord, send the power just now And baptize every one.

Yes, the power from Heav’n descended With the sound of rushing wind; Tongues of fire came down upon them, As the Lord said He would send. Yes, this “old time” power was given To our fathers who were true; This is promised to believers, And we all may have it too.

Readers: 7:00 am - Sidney Curry, 9:30 am - ANGLICAN CHURCH MEN Reader: A Reading from the Word of God written in Acts 2:1-11.

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in

one place. 2 And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush

of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3

Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested

on each of them. 4

All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began

to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

5

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven

living in Jerusalem. 6

And at this sound the crowd gathered and was

bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native

language of each. 7

Amazed and astonished, they asked, ‘Are not all

these who are speaking Galileans? 8

And how is it that we hear, each of

us, in our own native language? 9

Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and

residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10

Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene,

and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11

Cretans and Arabs—

in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of

power.’

another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues,

to another the interpretation of tongues. 11

All these are activated by

one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the

Spirit chooses.

12

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the

members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13

For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks,

slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

Reader: The Word of the Lord. Response: Thanks be to God. GRADUAL HYMN - 7:00 AM …………………………...…………………………. A&M 207 Our Blest Redeemer, ere He breathed His tender last farewell, A Guide, a Comforter, bequeath’d With us to dwell. He came sweet influence to impart, A gracious, willing Guest, While He can find one humble heart Wherein to rest.

And His that gentle voice we hear, Soft as the breath of even, That checks each fault, that calms each fear, And speaks of Heav’n. And every virtue we possess, And every conquest won, And every thought of holiness, Are His alone.

Spirit of purity and grace, Our weakness, pitying, see: O make our hearts thy dwelling place And worthier thee.

GRADUAL HYMN - 9:30 AM …………………………...…………………………. A&M 156 Come, Thou Holy Spirit, come, And from Thy celestial home Shed a ray of light Divine! Come, Thou Father of the poor! Come, Thou Source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine! Thou, of Comforters the best; Thou, the soul's most welcome guest; Sweet refreshment here below; In our labor rest most sweet; Grateful coolness in the heat; Solace in the midst of woe.

O most Blessèd Light Divine, Shine within these hearts of Thine, And our inmost being fill; Where Thou art not, man hath naught, Nothing good in deed or thought, Nothing free from taint of ill. Heal our wounds, our strength renew; On our dryness pour Thy dew; Wash the stains of guilt away; Bend the stubborn heart and will; Melt the frozen, warm the chill; Guide the steps that go astray.

On the faithful, who adore And confess Thee, evermore In Thy sevenfold gift descend; Give them virtue's sure reward Give them Thy salvation, Lord; Give them joys that never end.

O MOST BLESSÈD LIGHT DIVINE, SHINE WITHIN THESE HEARTS OF THINE!

+ THE GOSPEL + Reader: The Lord be with you. Response: And also with you. Reader: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 20:19-23.

Response: Glory to Christ our Saviour.

19

When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and

the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear

of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with

you.” 20

After He said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then

the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21

Jesus said to them

again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so I send you.” 22

When He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive

the Holy Spirit. 23

If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if

you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Reader: This is the Gospel of Christ. Response: Praise to Christ our Lord. POST-GOSPEL HYMN ………………………….……. “THE COMFORTER HAS COME”

O spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found, Wherever human hearts and human woes abound; Let ev’ry Christian tongue proclaim the joyful sound: The Comforter has come!

The Comforter has come, the Comforter has come! The Holy Ghost from Heav’n, the Father’s promise giv’n; O spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found— The Comforter has come!

The long, long night is past, the morning breaks at last, And hushed the dreadful wail and fury of the blast, As o’er the golden hills the day advances fast! The Comforter has come! Lo, the great King of kings, with healing in His wings, To ev’ry captive soul a full deliverance brings; And through the vacant cells the song of triumph rings; The Comforter has come! O boundless love divine! How shall this tongue of mine To wond’ring mortals tell the matchless grace divine— That I, a child of hell, should in His image shine! The Comforter has come!

Bahamas Anglican Men Cursillo # 22 is now in its 4th day. The three day weekend stretched from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th of June 2011 at Bahamas Youth Camp, here in New Providence. Fifteen men from our one hundred and ten churches offered as candidates. Sergio Kerr was our only man from St. Gregory the Great. Small numbers, however it was worth the investment. Didn’t our hearts burn within us as they testified to their spiritual flight last Sunday evening at our close out at Holy Trinity! To God alone be the glory.

Today we look forward to more testimonies from these men, here in our own parish church. I am glad to have had the opportunity to have tarried with these men as their spiritual director assisted by other priests in the Diocese.

The way forward in renewal is through the leadership of our men, pray that our women will follow leadership given by the men. Renewal must be the way forward and the buzz word in the parish. Cursilliastas! Let’s wake up and pull this ministry together. We must meet, attend ultreyas and create our own active community of Cursillo right at St. Gregory. We need make our every effort an intentional one. Cursilliastas are expected to lead the way in the parish, but we must galvanize, come together and do that which we must.

Cursilliastas are to identify candidates and prepare them for future weekends. We are to sponsor candidates to weekends surfacing at weekends and give physical support. Ministries in the parish are to be undefended by Cursilliastas as they do apostolic action.

Discovery weekends are “mini-cursillos” held at the parish level. This way we can immerse the entire parish in the renewal experience. Cursilliastas, I am calling on you to rally around me when we blow the trumpet to pull a team together. I look forward to our first adult discovery during lent of 2012. I beg your prayers.

Happy Whitsuntide to all. This is the birthday of the church. We use Whitsuntide interchangeably with the term Pentecost. Pentecost became Whitsunday because it was a day for baptisms; the candidates were dressed in white baptismal robes to go down into the water. Thus the nick-name, Whit-Sunday (White Sunday). As a Christian country we celebrate the birthday of the church with a national holiday. So happy holidays to all; I wish you lots of joy and safety over all.

On Thursday 23rd June, 7pm, I am inviting all Readers and Intercessors to a preliminary workshop. This will be a first in an ongoing series. These people are crucial to the conduct of worship and are infact worship leaders. It is opened to all those currently on roster and all who would like to be on roster. It is important that all be done in decency and order. *

OFFERTORY HYMN - 9:30 AM …………………… ST. GREGORY’S SENIOR CHOIR THE PRESENTATION OF THE OFFERING …………………………………….. BCP p126 OFFERTORY HYMN 2 ………………………………………………… A&M 154 (Tune A&M 62)

When God of old came down from Heav’n, In power and wrath He came; Before His feet the clouds were riven, Half darkness and half flame: But, when He came the second time, He came in power and love; Softer than gale at morning prime Hover’d His holy Dove. The fires, that rushed on Sinai down In sudden torrents dread, Now gently light, a glorious crown, On every sainted head.

And as on Israel’s awe-struck ear The voice exceeding loud, The trump, that Angels quake to hear, Thrill’d from the deep, dark cloud; So, when the Spirit of our God Came down His flock to find, A voice from Heav’n was heard abroad, A rushing, mighty wind. It fills the Church of God; it fills The sinful world around; Only in stubborn hearts and wills No place for it is found.

Come Lord, come Wisdom, Love and Power, Open our ears to hear; Let us not miss the accepted hour; Save, Lord, by love or fear.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER: FORM A ….. BCP p126, p128, p131, p144 PROPER PREFACE ………………….......………………….............................. BCP p128 COMMUNION HYMNS ………………..…………………………………………….. A&M 315 Once, only once, and once for all, His precious life He gave; Before the Cross our spirits fall, And own it strong to save.

“One offering, single and complete,” With lips and heart we say; But what He never can repeat He shows forth day by day.

For, as the priest of Aaron’s line Within the Holiest stood, And sprinkled all the mercy-shrine With sacrificial blood;

So He, Who once atonement wrought, Our Priest of endless power, Presents Himself for those He bought In that dark noontide hour.

His Manhood pleads where now it lives On heaven’s eternal Throne, And where in mystic rite He gives Its Presence to His own.

And so we show Thy death, O Lord, Till Thou again appear; And feel, when we approach Thy Board, We have an Altar here.

All glory to the Father be, All glory to the Son, All glory, Holy Ghost, to Thee, While endless ages run.

“BREAK THOU THE BREAD OF LIFE”

Break Thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea; Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord; My spirit pants for Thee, O Living Word! Break Thou the bread of life, O Lord, to me, That hid within my heart Thy Word may be: Mould Thou each inward thought, from self set free, And let my steps be all controlled by Thee. Open Thy Word of Truth, that I may see Thy message written clear and plain for me; Then in sweet fellowship walking with Thee, Thine image on my life engraved will be. Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord, to me, to me, As Thou didst bless the bread by Galilee; Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall; And I shall find my peace, My All in All.

A&M 558

O Jesus, Blessed Lord, to Thee My heartfelt thanks for ever be, Who hast so lovingly bestow’d On me Thy Body and Thy Blood.

Break forth, my soul, for joy, and say What wealth is come to me to-day! My Saviour dwells within me now; How blest am I! how good art Thou!

JUST KEEP ON THE FIRING LINE! RECESSIONAL HYMN - 7:00 AM …………………… A&M 154 (Tune A&M 62, lyrics on p7)

RECESSIONAL HYMN - 9:30 AM ……………………. “KEEP ON THE FIRING LINE”

If you’re in the battle for the Lord and right, keep on the firing line; If you win, my brother, surely you must fight, keep on the firing line; There are many dangers that we all must face, If we die still fighting it is no disgrace; Cowards in the service will not find a place, so keep on the firing line. Oh, you must fight, be brave against all evil, Never run, nor even lag behind; If you would win for God and the right, Just keep on the firing line. God will only use the soldier He can trust, keep on the firing line; If you’ll wear a crown then bear the cross you must, keep on the firing line. Life is but to labour for the Master dear, Help to banish evil and to spread good cheer; Great you’ll be rewarded for your service here, so keep on the firing line.

9

When we get to heaven, brother, we’ll be glad, keep on the firing line; How we’ll praise the Saviour for the call we had, keep on the firing line; When we see the souls that we have helped to win, Leading them to Jesus, from the paths of sin, With a shout of welcome, we will all march in, so keep on the firing line.
