Objectives

After this chapter the participants will be able to:

1. Explain the Iub interface and the Radio Network Layer protocols: the Node B Application Part (NBAP) signaling protocol in the control plane and the user plane protocols for common transport channel (CCH) data streams and dedicated transport channel (DCH) data streams.

2. Explain the main functions and procedures of the NBAP signaling protocol.

3. Explain the main functions and procedures of the user plane protocols for CCH and DCH data streams (Frame Protocols).

UL_SIR_TARGET 10-32 Payload

Based on the CRC Indicator values, the SRNC modifies the SIR target used by the UL inner loop power control by including the absolute value of the new SIR target in the OUTER LOOP PC control frame sent to the RBSs.

At the reception of the “Outer Loop PC” control frame, the RBS updates the SIR target used for the inner loop power control with the specified value.

SRNC

”UL Synchronization”

”DL Synchronization”CFN

ToA & CFN

The procedure is initiated by the SRNC by sending a “DL Synchronization” control frame towards the RBS . This control frame indicates the target Connection Frame Number (CFN).

When the RBS receives this message, the RBS sends a response “UL Synchronization” control frame indicating the Time of Arrival (ToA) and CFN indicated in the received control frame.

The SRNC always includes the Connection Frame Number (CFN) to all DCH DL Data Frames.

If a DL Data Frame arrives outside the arrival window defined in the RBS, the RBS sends a Timing Adjustment control frame, containing the measured Time of Arrival (ToA) and the CFN value of the received DL Data frame.
