› Swiss org. production meets +/- demand less possibilities for less perfect cultivars, thus more pressure on ‘old’ resistant cultivars!

› No new resistant cultivars to replace first orchard generation of resistant cultivars like Rewena, Resi, Resista, Otawa, Rubinola, Ariwa, Topaz etc.

› Decision and planting “vacuum” › To make things worse, there is a dominating demand

for Gala also in the organic market!

› 1-MCP used for conventional fruit increases need for long-storable organic cultivars

› Fireblight tolerance in addition to Scab tolerance becomes “compulsory”,

› but also sufficient tolerance to Gloeosporium, Sooty blotch and alternate bearing must be given (Powdery mildew is a lesser problem)
