The fun stuff!Everyone loves rules.

Our goals:• Build as many great applications as possible• Deploy them in as many places as we can• Put resources and opportunities into your hands quickly• Minimize hassle and distraction

Basic process:• Identify the (ideally single) recipient of funds in your community• Clear that recipient for receipt of funds• Complete programmatic milestone outlined by Nishal and Glenn• Receive funds (ideally 1x-2x annually)• Complete reports on time

The basics

NSF awarded Cooperative Agreement CNS-1531046 to US Ignite in September• Three year award• 15 participating communities (12 named, 3 pending)• Each community will have at least one subgrant awardee• No overhead funds will be paid

Four primary categories of funding• Low-latency videoconference setup• Partial subsidy for a technical expert in each community• One-time “startup” funds• Ongoing annual grants

Additional funds for equipment and networking on a case-by-case basis

The requirements

Start by working with Nishal on the program• Identify and get approval for your local technical expert• Develop a plan for generating application ideas and prototypes• Choose community-building tactics from among those suggested or come up

with something new

Please do:• Run your ideas by someone at US Ignite first• Try, when possible, to have open, public events and competitions• Respond promptly for reports or requests for information• Keep documentation on hours worked and expenses underwritten

Please don’t:• Spend money on alcohol, memberships, or luxury travel• Assume that the “ask for forgiveness later” policy will work• Promise funds for something that has not been approved by US Ignite

Where to go for help

Our mission is to find a way to say yes• Program is designed to be flexible• No one has the formula (yet!) for the best way to create gigabit applications• We will work to find a way within the rules
