SEAGER ADDED TO ALL-STAR TEAM…Kyle Seager was added to the AL All-Star team today Major League Baseball announced…as the Mariners third All-Star, marks the first time with three players in the Midsummer Classic since 2011 and first time with two position players since 2006

HOME HITTER…Kyle Seager is batting .357 (51x143) with 20 runs scored, 20 extra-base hits (2B-8, 3B-1, HR-11) and 38 RBI in 41 games at Safeco Field this season…has a current 10-game home hitting streak (since June 14), batting .579 (22x38) with 6 doubles, 3 home runs and 16 RBI during this stretch.

2 HITS AND A LOSS…the Mariners fell to the White Sox yesterday 1-0, with the only run scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning…Seattle allowed only 2 hits in the loss, marking the 9th time in club history to lose a game while allowing 2 (or fewer) hits…it was the first time since a 2-1 loss June 27, 2012 vs. Oakland (solo HR by Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes).

FIRST HALF ERA…Felix Hernandez leads the American League with a 2.11 ERA (32 ER, 136.1 IP), which is currently the lowest in club history prior to the All-Star break (min. 10 GS)…the mark Felix is aiming to better is a 2.20 ERA by Randy Johnson in 1997, who was the American League starting pitcher in the All-Star game.

GREAT SCOTT…Felix Hernandez has recorded 10 consecutive starts where he has pitched at least 7.0 innings and allowed 2 or fewer runs (6-1, 1.40 ERA, 85 SO, 11 BB)…the streak is the 2nd-longest by an AL pitcher dating back to 1974 when Gaylord Perry had a 11-start streak for the Indians…he is the first pitcher with 10 straight starts of 7.0 IP, 2 or less runs in a single season since Mike Scott (HOU) in 1986.

CRAZY EIGHTS…tossed at least 8.0 innings, while allowing 2 runs or less in 3 consecutive starts (May 8 vs. KC, May 13 vs. TB & May 20 at TEX)…became the 12th starting pitcher in club history (21st time) to record 3 consecutive starts where he has pitched 8.0+ innings & allowed 2 or fewer runs…Felix Hernandez has 5 such streaks during his career (most in club history) and Randy Johnson and Mike Moore each had three streaks.

HIGH QUALITY…recorded back-to-back starts of 8.0 or more scoreless innings without allowing a walk, May 8 vs. Kansas City and May 13 vs. Tampa Bay, becoming the first pitcher in Mariners history to record such back-to-back starts…over those two starts allowed 8 hits, zero walks and struck out 12 batters in 16.0 scoreless innings.

THE INJURY…while working out in Southern California in preparation for spring training, suffered an injury to the middle finger on his right (throwing) hand…he was examined by hand specialist Dr. Don Sheridan in Arizona who diagnosed him with a strained tendon in his middle finger…on 15-day DL March 29 (retro to March 21)-May 3, incl. 1 rehab start at AAA Tacoma (see below).

REHAB OUTING…made his only rehab appearance on April 27 for AAA Tacoma against Las Vegas…allowed 3 runs (2 ER) in the first inning before tossing 3.0 scoreless innings…retired the side in order in just the 3rd frame…also tossed a simulated game on April 22 at Safeco Field after rain threatened the game in Tacoma.

SEATTLE’S BEST IN 2013…was named to AL All Star team but did not pitch…was named Mariners Pitcher of the Year by the Seattle chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America and was a finalist for Male Athlete of the Year for 2013 in the 79th Seattle Star of the Year voting.

INNINGS EATER…tossed a career-high 219.2 innings in 2013, besting his Japanese career-high of 201.2 innings during his Pacific League MVP season in 2008…his innings total was T3rd-most by a Japanese born pitcher, trailing only Hideo Nomo (228.1 in 1996 & 220.1 in 2002).

KUMA QUALITY START…in 2013 led the Majors and set a Mariners record with 10 starts in which he pitched at least 6.0 innings and did not allow an earned run (5-0, 5 no-decision)…for the season had 13 no-decisions and had a 2.88 ERA (84.1 IP, 27 ER) in those games…bullpen failed to protect 4 leads for him.
