    MAIN GROUP 6 - MACHINERY MAIN COMPONENTS

    The main propulsion system shall comprise of two medium speed marine diesel enginesdriving two controllable pitch propellers through twin reduction gearboxes and propellershafts.

    General All machinery to be delivered with certificates according to the Class requirements wherenothing else is stated.

    Spare parts, ref. main group 1 item L.

    Machinery foundations shall be designed with a view to reduce the extent of vibrations andnoise in the vessel. Main engines to be rigid mounted.OPTION: Main engines to be flexible mounted.OPTION ENDS.

    All machinery to be marine type, and complete with all normal outfitting and accessories.

    Major machinery components such as propulsion machinery, shaft bearings and deck machinery, shall be mounted on hardened epoxy resin chocks.Minor components can be placed directly on the foundation.

    All diesel engines above 130 kW (except emergency DG engine) shall be NOx compliant.

    The torsional vibration characteristics of the propulsion system shall be approved by Class.

    The arrangement and layout of the machinery installation shall allow adequate access tocontrols, components, valves and pipe joints such that maintenance, examination andreplacement can be done by minimum disturbance to the pipes and fittings.

    Shipping / unshipping route shall be clearly marked for all machinery.

    Builder shall be responsible for the maintenance and preservation of all machinery andequipment until accepted by the Owner.

    All tests and trails for main and auxiliary machinery, equipment, system, etc. includingopening up of machinery shall be carried out in accordance with ClassificationSociety/ONGC requirements, ref. also item 15.

    60 DIESEL ENGINE FOR PROPULSION

    Propulsion configurationThe vessel shall be arranged with two (2) independent propulsion systems.

    Each propulsion plant shall comprise a 4-stroke turbocharged medium speed diesel engine,driving one controllable pitch propeller via reduction gearbox.

    63 TRANSMISSIONS

    634 Controllable pitch propeller plant

    Two (2) off 4-blade controllable pitch propellers to be arranged.For details on propellers; ref. item 637.

    Direction of rotation: According to model test report

    Two fabricated mild steel stern tubes shall be fitted, secured at the bulkhead and at the Aframe boss. Each shall be fitted with a cast iron white metal lined bushes, and arranged for oillubrication. The stern tubes shall be fitted with seals, all in accordance with propellermanufactures standards.

    Two (2) stern tube oil tanks shall be provided, one to feed each stern tube bearing by gravity.The tanks shall have air release arrangements, an oil level gauge, and low level alarm.

    Propeller shaft BracketsPropeller shaft brackets to be made of welded steel of adequate dimensions and to be wellsupported in hull constructions to prevent vibrations.

    637 Main Gear with Thrust Bearings, Couplings

    Main gearsTwo (2) nos. KAMEWA-ULSTEIN 4 bladed C.P.Propulsion Systems,Type 480AGHC-KP45-60 A/4 I-B - 2750 to be delivered and installed, complete withintermediate shafts, bearings, etc.

    Pitch control and feed back system shall be integrated in the main reduction gearbox, andgearbox sump shall be utilized as oil reservoir for both for the gearbox and the propeller.

    Sealing system shall be Simplex compact type with ceramic-coated liner.Rope cutters to be arranged.

    The propulsion plant shall be dimensioned and designed for the ships speed and applicationand for the installed engine power as follows:

    Engine power : 1800kW / 1000 RPMPropeller speed, approx. : 208 RPMPropeller diameter, approx. : 2750 mm

    The engines shall be four-stroke, single acting, trunk type engines, each equipped with turbo-charger, charging air coolers and load dependent temperature control system.

    Diesel engine and generator shall be installed on a common bedplate.Flexible coupling shall be provided between diesel engine and generator.

    Base plate shall be flexibly mounted. Special care shall be taken, to reduce the vibration levelon the skid.The diesel engine manufacturer shall be responsible for the mechanical assembly of the dieselengines and the generators.

    The generator set is to be connected to main switchboard, and to be flexible mounted to thevessels structure.

    The diesel engine shall have built on fresh water cooling, lubrication and fuel oil system as

    per manufacturers standard, and to be pneumatic started.

    The diesel engines shall have built-on still stand heater, the generator shall have built-on anti-condensation heater.

    Spark arrestor to be provided to the exhaust system.

    If a black out occurs for the main generator systems, the emergency generator set shall startautomatically and connect to the emergency switchboard, according to Class/statutoryrequirement.Instructions containing information of required fuel oil tank level, ventilation openings,valves, etc. shall be fitted at the emergency switchboard, to ensure that when the vessel isunder way, all control devices are in correct positions for the independent emergencyoperation of the emergency generator set and emergency switch board.

    Transitional batteries shall be provided as per Class requirements.

    Special consideration shall be given to the selection of shaft generators in order to avoidunacceptable voltage drop during star-delta start of the thruster motors.
