Paint.NET is a freeware raster graphics editing programforMicrosoft Windows, developed onthe .NET Framework. Originally created as a Washington State University student project,[3]Paint.NET

has evolved from a simple replacement for the Microsoft Paintprogram, which is included with Windows,

into a powerful editor with support for layers, blending, transparency, and plugins.

OverviewPaint.NET is primarily programmed in theC#programming language, with smallamounts ofC ++ used for installation and shell-integration related functionality. Itsnative image format,.PDN, is acompressedrepresentation of the application'sinternalobjectformat, which preserves layering and other information.[4]Excludingthe installer, text, and graphics, Paint.NET is released under a modified version of

theMIT-like License.[5]It was initially released as completelyopen source, but due tobreaches of license, all resource files (such as interface text and icons) were

released under aCreative Commons licenseforbidding modification, and theinstaller was made closed-source

The "quick tabs" feature available inInternet Explorer 8

Internet Explorer makes use of the accessibility framework provided in Windows. Internet Explorer is

also a user interface for FTP, with operations similar to that of Windows Explorer (although this feature

requires a shell window to be opened in recent versions of the browser, rather than natively within the

browser).Visual Basic for Applications(VBA) is not supported, but available via extension (iMacros).

Recent versions featurepop-up blocking andtabbed browsing.Tabbed browsing can also be added to

older versions by installing Microsoft'sMSN Search Toolbaror Yahoo's Yahoo Toolba

    standards support

Internet Explorer, using the Tridentlayout engine:

supports HTML 4.01, CSS Level 1,XML 1.0 andDOM Level 1, with minor implementation gaps.

fully supportsXSLT1.0 as well as an obsolete Microsoft dialect of XSLT often referred to as WD-xsl,

which was loosely based on the December 1998 W3C Working Draft ofXSL. Support forXSLT 2.0 lies in

the future: semi-official Microsoft bloggers have indicated that development is underway, but no dates

    have been announced.

partially supports CSS Level 2 and DOM Level 2, with major implementation gaps and conformanceissues. Almost full conformance to CSS 2.1 has been added in the Internet Explorer 8 release.[48][49]

does not supportXHTML, though it can render XHTML documents authored with HTML compatibility

    principles and served with atext/htmlMIME-type.

does not supportSVG, in any version but will in Version 9[50].

Internet Explorer uses DOCTYPE sniffingto choose between standards mode and a "quirks mode" in

which it deliberately mimicks nonstandard behaviors of old versions of MSIE for HTML and CSS

rendering on screen (Internet Explorer always uses standards mode for printing). It also provides its

    own dialect ofECMAScriptcalledJScript.

Internet Explorer has been subjected to criticism over its limited support foropenweb standards

TheAdobe Flash Playeris software for viewing animations and movies using computer programs

such as a web browser. Flash player is a widely distributedproprietarymultimedia and application

player created byMacromedia and now developed and distributed byAdobe after its acquisition. Flash

Player runsSWFfiles that can be created by theAdobe Flash authoring tool, byAdobe Flexor by a

number of otherMacromedia and third party tools.

Adobe Flash, or simply Flash, refers to both a multimedia authoring program and the Adobe Flash

Player, written and distributed by Adobe, that uses vectorandraster graphics, a native scripting

language calledActionScriptand bidirectional streaming of video and audio. Strictly speaking, Adobe

Flash is the authoring environment and Flash Player is the virtual machine used to run the Flash files,

but in colloquial language these have become mixed: "Flash" can mean either the authoring

environment, the player, or the application files.

Flash Player has support for an embedded scripting language calledActionScript(AS), which is based

on ECMAScript. Since its inception, ActionScript has matured from a script syntax without variables to

one that supports object-oriented code, and may now be compared in capability toJavaScript(another

    ECMAScript-based scripting language).

The Flash Player was originally designed to display 2-dimensional vector animation, but has since

become suitable for creating rich Internet applications and streaming video and audio. It uses vector

graphics to minimize file size and create files that save bandwidth and loading time. Flash is a

common format for games, animations, andGUIs embedded into web pages

Antivirus software"Antivirus" redirects here. For antiviral medication, seeAntiviral drug.

    Endpointantivirus software developed bySymantec

Antivirus (oranti-virus)softwareis used to prevent, detect, and remove malware, including

computer, worms, andTrojan horses. Such programs may also prevent and remove adware, spyware,

    and other forms of malware.

A variety of strategies are typically employed. Signature-based detection involves searching for known

malicious patterns in executable code. However, it is possible for a user to be infected with new malwarefor which no signature exists yet. To counter such so-called threats, heuristics can be used. One type of

heuristic approach, generic signatures, can identify new viruses or variants of existing viruses by looking

for known malicious code (or slight variations of such code) in files. Some antivirus software can also

predict what a file will do if opened/run by emulating it in asandbox and analyzing what it does to see if it

performs any malicious actions. If it does, this could mean the file is malicious.

However, no matter how useful antivirus software is, it can sometimes have drawbacks. Antivirus

software can degrade computer performanceif it is not designed efficiently. Inexperienced users may

have trouble understanding the prompts and decisions that antivirus software presents them with. An

incorrect decision may lead to a security breach. If the antivirus software employs heuristic detection (of

any kind), success depends on achieving the right balance betweenfalse positivesandfalse negatives.

False positives can be as destructive as false negatives. In one case, a faulty virus signature issued

bySymantec mistakenly removed essential operating system files, leaving thousands of PCs unable

to boot.[1] Finally, antivirus software generally runs at the highly trusted kernel level of the operating

system, creating a potential avenue of attack.

chat client allows group chats, emoticons, storing chat history, offline messaging and (in recent versions)

editing of previous messages. The usual gamut of features familiar to instant messaging users - such as

user profiles, online status indicators, and so on - is also included.

SkypeIn allows Skype users to receive calls on their computers dialed by regular phone subscribers to a

local Skype phone number; local numbers are available forAustralia,Brazil,Chile,Colombia, Denmark,

the Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland,France, Germany,Hong

    Kong,Hungary,Ireland,Italy,Japan, Mexico,New Zealand,Poland,Romania,South Africa,South

Korea, Sweden,Switzerland, theNetherlands, theUnited Kingdom, and the United States.[12][13]A Skype

user can have local numbers in any of these countries, with calls to the number charged at the same rate

as calls to fixed lines in the country. Some jurisdictions, including France, Germany and South Africa,

forbid the registration of their telephone numbers to anyone without a physical presence or residency in

    the country.[citation needed].

Video conferencing between two users was introduced in January 2006 for theWindows andMac OS

X platform clients. Skype 2.0 forLinux, released on March 13, 2008, also features support for video

    conferencing.[14]

Skype for Windows, starting with version 3.6.0.216, supports "High Quality Video" with quality and

features, e.g., full-screen and screen-in-screen modes, similar to those of mid-range videoconferencing

systems.[15] Skype audio conferences currently support up to 25 people at a time, including the host.

A discontinued feature called "Skypecasting" allowed recordings of Skype voice over IP voice calls

andteleconferences to be used aspodcasts, which allow audio or video content to be syndicated over the

Internet. Skype launched its " Skypecasts Beta" service in 2006. It remained in beta until its end.

Skypecasts hosted public conference calls, up to 100 people at a time. Unlike ordinary Skype p2p

conference calls, Skypecasts supported moderation features suitable for panel discussions, lectures, and

town hall forums. Skype operated a directory of public Skypecasts. On August 26, 2008, Skype

announced that Skypecasts would be discontinued beginning September 1, 2008.[16]Skypecasts were

shut down without any concrete explanation on 1 September 2008 at 12:00 UTC. In late 2009 the

company, Skype for Power Gamers (S4PG), announced that in Q2 2010 it would be releasing both a

client and server Skype Add-on that will enable Skype end-users to host their own "Skypecast-like" auto-

    conference rooms.

Skype does not provide the ability to call emergency numberssuch as 911 in the United States and

Canada, 000 in Australia, 112 in Europe, or 999 in the UK.[17]TheFCC has ruled that, for the purposes of

section 255 of the Telecommunications Act, Skype is not an "interconnected VoIP provider".[18] As a

result, the U.S. National Emergency Number Association recommends that all VoIP users have an analog

    line available as a backu
