October 22, 2018 1) Harm Reduction Resolution - Your Help is Needed. Physician Public Health advocates with a shared commitment to saving lives -- but with very different perspectives on electronic cigarettes -- collaborated to write AMA Resolution 914 (I-18), which passed AAPHP's Resolutions, Policy, and Legislation (RPL) committee and was submitted for the AMA Interim Meeting November 10-13, 2018. This resolution, if adopted, would have our AMA advocate for strong rules against selling or marketing electronic cigarettes to young people (under age 21), while assuring that electronic cigarettes remain available to adults 21 and over. Co-authors of this resolution were JIM FELSEN MD MPH, longtime AAPHP RPL Committee member and Alternate AMA Delegate for the West Virginia State Medical Association, and LONNIE BRISTOW MD, former AMA President and good friend of AAPHP. The full text, including the "Whereas" clauses, is on AAPHP's Web site at https://www.aaphp.org/914/ . "Your help is needed! Please read this resolution and discuss it with AAPHP leaders (including Dave Cundiff MD MPH, AAPHP's AMA delegate, [email protected]). Please also ask your state and
