Project Goals Participates will be provide information and materials to
help individuals to:• Understand Disasters• Create A Personal Support Network• Complete A Personal Assessment• Make Personal Disaster Preparation • Identify needed Disaster Supplies • Make your Home or Office Safer
Participants will be given a copy of:Disaster Preparedness for People With Disabilities (American Red Cross Disaster Services) and a participants notebook.

Understand Disasters:
• What kind of disasters may occur in your community?
• How are area residents informed of possible disasters?
• What are the effects of disasters on you and your community?

Create A Personal Support Network
• How to organize a network (pages 8-10)• Who are your network members (minimum of
three in each location where you regularly spend a lot of time)
• Give your network members copies of your emergency documents and personal disaster plan. (Appendix C)
• Agree on how you and your network will contact each other during an emergency.

Complete A Personal Assessment
• This tool helps you decide what you will be able to do for yourself and what assistance you may need before, during and after a disaster.
• Helps you to consider : Daily Living, Getting Around, Evacuating (pages 11- 15)
