PRACTICE INCENTIVES PROGRAM (PIP)
The Practice Incentives Program (PIP) aims to support general practice activities, including continual improvement, quality care, enhanced capacity, and improved access
and health outcomes for patients.
The Practice Incentives Program (PIP changed on 1 August 2019 with the removal of four PIPs that were replaced with
a new incentive –the PIP QI
(Quality Improvement).
PIP QI is designed for general practice to
implement changes relevant to
their patient population. This means a practice can focus on improving patient outcomes and
access to care, while also developing efficient
business processes.
The new incentive aims to improve patient care in
aspects such as management of chronic
conditions, quality of care and safety and performance.

Data sharing agreement
Under the PIP QI Incentive, practices must provide the PHN with the PIP Eligible Data Set from their general practice information system on a quarterly basis.
Using this data, the PHN will provide feedback to assist general practices to identify priority areas and quality improvement activities.
Participation in the PIP QI Incentive does not change existing patient data ownership arrangements. This means the Department of Health will not have access to an individual practice's PIP Eligible Data Set.
