Background on Survey

• FuelEd, in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), conducted a survey of NASSP members in the fall of 2014 to gain insight into how schools are using digital learning. The results of this survey will be used to help FuelEd improve online and blended learning for students across the nation.

• NASSP is the leading organization of and voice for middle level and high school principals, assistant principals, and school leaders from across the United States and 35 countries around the world.

Meet our Speakers – Middle School 385 (NY)

• Location: Brooklyn, NY

• Grades: 6th, 7th and 8th

• Biggest Challenges:– Lack of laptops for every student

– Many students did not have access to computers at home

– High ESL population

– Students come into the 6th grade 1 to 2 years behind in mathematical skills

– Programming

• Model(s): LearnBop weekly in the Math Lab after units are introduced to students. Students also have access to log on at home.

• Launched: November 2013

• In 2013, common core content was implemented in the state math exams

• Lack of technology in the classroom

• 75% of students not meeting the state requirements for the math exam

• Location: Lawrence, KS

• Model: Various over the 11 year partnership. Currently a Charter School working in Partnership with FuelEd, the Lawrence School District and the state of Kansas serving 1,250 students all over the world. Our staff of 53 work in concert with families to provide an online, blended comprehensive school experience.

• Staff: 35 Education Specialists, 10 Special Education Staff, 6 Classified Support Staff, 2 Administrators
