How to get there from here

Issues to address in orchestrating the transition• Beneficial occupancy conditions for installation• Systematic handoff of completed storage ring building

spaces for technical installation• Access to completed spaced for installation while

construction continues• Interaction of installation activity with LOB construction

1Key Points:

• Utilities and infrastructure are segmented as shown

• BOD handovers aligned with support infrastructure

• Installation and testing within these segments

• Linac/Booster test/commission may overlap with construction activities

Requirements and Interfaces

From Conventional Facilities• Beneficial occupancy of pentant 1 including utilities• Access on ring side through an area still held by

contractor for material handling• Access through vehicle tunnel for material handling to

service building 1• Staging area outside of building (LOB 5 area) From ASD (NSLS-II)• Coordination with contractor to allow construction to

continue

Page 25: 1 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Transition to Installation Erik Johnson ASD Deputy Director and Interface Manager NSLS-II CFAC Meeting November 9-10, 2009

LOBs and installation coordination

4 3

1

5

Key Issues:

• LOB construction not yet settled

• LOB 1, 2, and 3 in budget

• LOB 4 and 5 hoped for scope addittion if all goes well

• LOB will follow building phasing (roughly)

• May need to free LOB5 LOW before installation completed

Page 26: 1 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Transition to Installation Erik Johnson ASD Deputy Director and Interface Manager NSLS-II CFAC Meeting November 9-10, 2009

26 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES

Access coordination

Possible external access points• Construction entrance in P5• LOB 2 Staging• Loading dock

Page 27: 1 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES Transition to Installation Erik Johnson ASD Deputy Director and Interface Manager NSLS-II CFAC Meeting November 9-10, 2009

27 BROOKHAVEN SCIENCE ASSOCIATES

Possible complications and wrinkles

• Epoxy painted experimental floor – need to protect?• Construction of LOBs – could impact on availability or

access depending on build-out and schedule• Greater level of detail needed in some installation

components• XFD installation needs to be factored into schedule

Summary

Planning for transition well under way• BORE process under development (ESH/CFD)• Basic installation plan established for ASD• XFD installation plan under developmentCoordination with contractor(s) going forward• Need access to make use of turned over buildings• May need laydown area outside of building• Need to stay out of contractors way!Discussions already under way with Torcon
