68 th Training Programme of NITUB (A Regional Training Programme) On the use, maintenance, trouble-shooting and application of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) Venue: Atomic Energy Centre Dhaka (AECD), Dhaka-1000 21-26 July 2018 Report The 68 th Training Programme of NITUB on the use, maintenance, trouble-shooting and application of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) was held at the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (ACL; Accredited, ISO/IEC 17025:2005), Chemistry Division, Atomic Energy Centre Dhaka (AECD), Dhaka- 1000 on 21-26 July 2018. Dr. Bilkis Ara Begum, Director, Atomic Energy Centre Dhaka, was the Convener of the programme committee. A circular of the Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) training programme was circulated to public and private educational and research institutes of Bangladesh and also to few educational and research organizations of Nepal, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. 17 (Seventeen) participants from different educational institutions and research organizations of Bangladesh attended the training programme Regional participants initially applied to participate the training programme but could not finally attend due to lack of financial support from their institutes. University Professor, research scientists and technical experts of NITUB conducted the training programme. A detailed day-to-day programme and the list of participants are given below. The training programme was designed so that the participants get more time on hand on training on AAS, which hopefully will help them in handling their own AAS machine The inauguration session of the programme was presided over by Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad, President, NITUB. Engr. Imtiaz Kamal, Member Planning and Chairman (acting) Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) kindly attended the session as the Chief Guest. Professor Altaf Hussain, General Secretary of NITUB, briefly introduced NITUB and narrated its aims and objectives in the meeting. Professor A. M. Shafiqul Alam, Executive Committee member of NITUB and Dr. Shamshad B. Quraishi, Chief Scientific Officer & Quality Manager, ACL and Head, Chemistry Division, Atomic Energy Centre, Dhaka in there speech described the detailed daily scheduled of the programme. Engr. Imtiaz Kamal in his address welcomed the participants in AECD campus and urged them to get maximum benefit out of the programme. Engr. Imtiaz Kamal thanked NITUB for arranging such training programmes for the user scientists and technical personnel of the country and requested NITUB to continue with such programme to update the knowledge of the participants. Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad, in his address urged all scientists & technical personnel to work together to enhance the standard of scientific education and research in Bangladesh. Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad thanked BAEC for providing logistic support and also all participants and resource persons for participating in the programme. An open discussion session was held before the closing ceremony. The participants evaluated the programme as a very effective one and were thankful to all resource persons for their very friendly cooperation in demonstrating all aspects of AAS. The participants thanked NITUB and requested to organize more training programme on specific scientific instruments which will benefit scientists and technical personnel immensely in their professional lives. The closing session of the training program was presided over by Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad, President of NITUB, Professor Ahmed congratulated the participants for successfully completing the training and gave away the certificates. 69th Training Programme of NITUB On the use, maintenance and trouble-shooting of Ultra-Violet, Visible and Infrared

(UV-VIS & IR) Spectrophotometer 08-13 September 2018

Report

NITUB as per the decision of its Executive Committee organized its 69th training programme on "Ultra-Violet, Visible and Infrared Spectrophotometer (UV-VIS and IR)" at the INARS, BCSIR, Dr.Qudrat-I-Khuda Road, Dhaka-1205 on 08–13 September 2018. Md Aminul Ahsan, Director, INARS, BCSIR, was the Convener of the programme committee. A circular of the UV-VIS and IR training programme was circulated to public and private educational and research institutes of Bangladesh and also to few educational and research organizations of Nepal, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. 13 (Thirteen) participants from different educational institutions and research organizations of Bangladesh attended the training programme. University Professor, research scientists and technical experts of NITUB conducted the training programme. A detailed day-to-day programme is given in the report. There were theoretical lectures and practical sessions on UV-VIS & IR Spectrophotometer. The training programme was designed in such a way that the participants get more time for practical sessions. The inaugural session of the programme was held at the Auditorium of INARS, BCSIR, Dr.Qudrat-I-Khuda Road, Dhaka-1205 on 08 September 2018 and was presided over by Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmad, President of NITUB. Professor Dr. Altaf Hussain, General Secretary of NITUB, in his address briefly introduced NITUB and its activities. Professor Dr. Nilufar Nahar, Treasurer of NITUB, in her address urged all scientists & technical personnel to work together to enhance the standard of scientific education and research in Bangladesh. Professor Ahmad, thanked all participants and resource persons for participating in the programme. An open discussion session was held before the closing ceremony where the participants thanked NITUB and the resource persons for conducting such a valuable training programme. They were very pleased to be participants in this training programme and also gave some suggestions for the future training programmes of NITUB. Mr. Md. Faruque Ahmed, Chairman, Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) kindly attended the closing ceremony as Chief Guest and in his address he congratulated the participants for successfully completing the training and handed over certificates to them. Professor Dr. Altaf Hussain, General Secretary of NITUB, briefly introduced NITUB and its activities. Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad in his address mentioned the genesis of NITUB and highlighted its activities. 70th Training Programme of NITUB On the use, maintenance and trouble-shooting of Common Medical Instruments

REPORT The 70th training programme on Common Medical Instruments was held on 14-19 July 2018 at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS). A brochure on the 70th training programme of NITUB on common Medical Instruments was circulated to all public hospitals, Polytechnic Institute, health centers, medical colleges and private medical centers of Bangladesh. Professor Dr. Begum Rokeya, Department of Pharmacology, BUHS and Join Secretary NITUB was the Convener of the programme committee. The training program was attended by 19 participants (List enclosed) of different hospitals, university and health centers of Bangladesh. The inaugural session of the programme was held in the BUHS auditorium on 14 July 2018 and was presided over by Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad, President of NITUB. Professor Nilufar Nahar, Treasurer of NITUB in his address briefly introduced NITUB and its activities. Professor Begum Rokeya, Joint Secretary of NITUB and Convener of the programme briefly mentioned about the programme schedule and gave welcome address. Many faculty members of BUHS, and senior scientists of different research organizations, also attended the inaugural session on invitation. Professors, senior scientists, biomedical engineers and technical experts mainly from BUHS conducted the training programme. The programme included both theoretical and practical sessions. A detailed day-to-day programme is enclosed in the report. In the open discussion and concluding session the participants evaluated the programme as very helpful and requested NITUB to organize such programme every year and if possible in different districts of Bangladesh. The participants also mentioned that it would be much more beneficial if the participants were divided into groups for practical sessions according to their desire or needs. Professor Begum Rokeya, Joint Secretary of NITUB and Convener of the programme mentioned that it could be done if the participants mention about their desire while filling up the form for participation in the workshop well in advance. The closing session of the training programme was held in the BUHS auditorium on 19 July, 2018 and was presided over by Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad President of NITUB. Professor Dr. Faridul Alam, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, BUHS kindly attended the session as the Chief Guest. Professor Altaf Hussain, General Secretary of NITUB and Professor Nilufar Nahar, Treasurer of NITUB attended the session. Professor Dr. Faridul Alam in his address welcomed the participants in BUHS, campus. Professor Dr. Faridul Alam thanked NITUB for arranging such training programmes for the user scientists and technical personnel of the country and requested NITUB to continue its activities which will help scientists and technical personnel of Bangladesh to update their knowledge. Honorable Vice-Chancellor handed over certificates to the participants. Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad congratulated the participants for successfully completing the training and sought cooperation from all to conduct NITUB training programmes successfully.

71st Training Programme of NITUB on the use, maintenance and trouble-shooting of Common Laboratory Equipment

REPORT

The 71st Training Programme of NITUB on the use, maintenance and trouble-shooting of Common Laboratory Equipment was held at Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur-5200 on 27 October – 01 November 2018. A brochure on the programme was circulated to all public and private universities, colleges, research organizations and pharmaceutical companies of Bangladesh. Professor Dr. Md. Mostafizer Rahman, Director, Planning Development and Works, HSTU was the convener of the programme committee. The inaugural session of the programme was held at the Auditorium-2 HSTU on 27 October 2018 and was presided over by Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad, President of NITUB. Professor Dr. M, Abul Kashem, Honorable Vice Chancellor, HSTU, kindly attended the session as the Chief Guest. The inauguration session was attended by the faculties and students of HSTU, participants, resource persons and scientists of other research organizations of Dinajpur. Professor Dr. Md. Mostafizer Rahman, convener of the programme, delivered welcome address, introduced participants and resource persons. He also narrated the detailed scheduled of the programme in his address. Professor Dr. Altaf Hussain General Secretary, NITUB, briefly mentioned aims, objectives and activities of NITUB. He also thanked the Vice Chancellor of HSTU for his kind permission and cooperation to allow NITUB to conduct the programme at HSTU. The Vice Chancellor in his address urged NITUB to arrange training programmes on regular basis so that faculties, students, scientists and technical personnel of Bangladesh can update their knowledge on instrumentation. The Training Programme was attended by 36 participants who are scientists and technical personnel (list enclosed). Theoretical lectures and practical sessions were conducted by university professors, senior scientists and technical experts of NITUB. A detailed day to day schedule of the programme is given in this report. A large numbers of non-functioning scientific instruments of HSTU were repaired and installed during the practical session of the training programme. In an open discussion, participants expressed their great satisfaction for the programme and requested NITUB to organize this type of training programme in a regular basis. The closing ceremony was held on the HSTU auditorium-2 on 01 November 2018. The function was presided over by Professor Dr. Nilufar Nahar, Treasurer of NITUB. Professor Dr. M, Abul Kashem, Honorable Vice Chancellor, HSTU, kindly attended the session as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Begum Rokeya, Joint Secretary, NITUB attended the function as Special Guest. In his speech, she highlighted the activities of NITUB and sought cooperation of all to conduct NITUB training programmes effectively. Professor Dr. Md. Mostafizer Rahman, convener of the programme also spoke in the closing session of the programme. Participants evaluated the programme as a very successful and helpful one. They thanked the resource persons and the organizers for such a well organized training programme. Honorable Vice-Chancellor in his address appreciated NITUB’s activities and thanked NITUB to organize such an effective training programme at HSTU. He specially thanked all resource persons who repaired and also installed scientific equipment of HSTU during practical sessions of the training programme.
