29

How this activity benefits us ?

Demonstrate the credibility of our performance

Consensus of experts outside of Delphi

Validate our competitive analysis

Promote our technical leadership

Provide clear answers to performance questions.

30

How this activity benefits us ?

Product Sales (OBD-II, 42V Battery, USCAR Centerlines)

Leadership Image to Customers

Protect present product sales

Provides “heads up” of next generation product requirements

Provides “insight” into competition through close relationships

31

“Hot” Activities

Air Bag Inflator “Squib” Connections

RF Antenna “FAKRA” Connections

USB Connections

Commercial Vehicle Standards SAE

ConAg Committee

USCAR / EWCAP Support

USCAR Footprints (Hyundai)

Vibration Performance Requirements

32

“Hot” Activities

Air Bag Inflator “Squib” Connections– ISO/SAE/USCAR

– Marketing forecast is for increasing number of squibs / vehicle

– There are production cars today with over 9 connections.

– Opportunities exist with tier suppliers as well as OEM’s.

– Delphi has several competitive designs

– “Next Generation” designs will be based on the new standards placing suppliers on an even playing field.

– Through our participation, we can influence the standard to our technologies and get a “foot-in” to potential customers.

Squib Connector

33

“Hot” Activities

RF Antenna “FAKRA” Connections– ISO/SAE/USCAR

– Marketing forecast is for increasing number of RF connections / vehicle

– There are production cars today with over 10 connections.

– Opportunities exist with tier suppliers as well as OEM’s.

– Delphi’s “partnership” is imminent and can help solidify our position in the standards.

– Present “proposed” standard requires negotiations with FCI. Delphi leads the initiative to get FCI to relinquish patent rights.

RF Connector

34

“Hot” Activities

USB Connections– Delphi has taken a lead position within USCAR,

and has been chosen to perform testing of existing FCI, Molex and Delphi standard A connections. (USCAR will pay for the testing).

– Delphi has concept proposals available and has performed FCLT testing on existing Delphi USB connections with positive results.

– Delphi has the opportunity to take the lead in setting the standard in agreement with USCAR direction.

– Delphi has been involved in the CarKit/CEA activity.

– Delphi has been asked to participate in the next USB-IF forum as a liaison between USCAR/USB-IF and CarKit/CEA

– Delphi is proposing USB as new work item for an ISO standard.

USB Connections

DCS Automotive USB Proposal

35

“Hot” Activities

Commercial Vehicle Standards SAE ConAg Committee

– Customers are requesting connections meet SAE J2030 H.D. Connector Specification.

– The ConAg Committee of SAE is planning an update of J2030.

– DCS is planning validation of Metri-Packs to J2030 to maintain it’ position in the industry.

– Significant to success of DHD sales and High Current connections.

– Absolutely requires a consistent presence to be effective.

36

“Hot” Activities

USCAR Support– EWCAP team reorganization

– Kurt Greer has been designated our local support to EWCAP.

– Need to be concerned about maintaining a USCAR office presence.

Vibration Performance Requirements– ISO/SAE/USCAR

– Too much confusion – need to take a lead with detailed performance data

USCAR Footprints– Hyundai has asked DCS to help them adopt USCAR footprints.

– Delphi is their key connection systems supplier and has decision making power.

– Jointly supporting ISO adoption of USCAR Standards

– Charles Yoon is key contact, but needs support of John Yurtin through ISO WG6.
