3 Saving Data
The game will automatically saveyour progress at various times, forexample when you finish certainraces.
You can delete your save data bypressing and holding +++simultaneously after starting thesoftware, when the MARIO KART 7logo is displayed. Once deleted,save data cannot be recovered, soplease be careful.
You can unlock the option to useyour Mii™ as a driver as you progressthrough the game. Mii characters canbe created in Mii Maker, accessibleon the HOME Menu. Use the MarioKart Channel to set or change theMii you wish to use in this game(p. 18).
This data is saved to the SD Card.

5 Driving Techniques
Here are some driving techniquesthat will allow you to enjoy thisgame to the fullest.
To launch from thestarting grid muchfaster than normal,press and hold or at just the righttime during the starting countdown.
After drifting for acertain amount oftime, blue sparkswill appear. Release at this point toexecute a Mini-Turbo, which givesyou a short speed boost.
Drifting allows youto turn cornerssharply withoutlosing any speed.To drift, hold or to accelerate, then hold anduse to turn.

Drift for a longertime and the bluesparks will changeto orange. Release at this point toexecute a Super Mini-Turbo, whichgives you a longer speed boost thana Mini-Turbo.
Press at themoment you jumpoff a ramp or similarobject to perform aJump Boost. Whenperformed correctly, this will giveyou a short speed boost uponlanding.

6 Using Items
Pass through one of the itemboxes found on the coursesand stages to get an item.
Some items can beequipped and used asshields against certainitems, such as Red Shells(p. 7).
Some items can be thrown forwardsor backwards (p. 4).

Press or to equip (thethree shells spin around yourvehicle), then press again touse one shell at a time.
Automatically locks onto andchases the vehicle in front ofyou, knocking over the firstvehicle it hits. Hold or toequip.
Travels in a straight line andknocks over the first vehicle ithits. Hold or to equip.

Provides a short speed boost.
Temporarily transforms youinto a Bullet Bill, whichautomatically follows thecourse at high speed andknocks over any vehicles it hitsalong the way.
For a short time, allows you touse a Dash Mushroomwhenever you press or .
Once thrown or dropped,explodes after a short amountof time or when a vehiclecomes near it. Any vehicle inthe blast radius will spin out ofcontrol or be knocked over.Hold or to equip.

Makes all opponents spin outof control, then temporarilyshrinks them and lowers theirspeed.
Makes you temporarilyinvincible. This increases yourspeed and causes any vehicleyou hit to be knocked over.

The results are displayed once therace is over. Each driver is awardedpoints based on their place, and thetotal points after all four racesdetermine the final standings. Yourdriving technique will receive a ratingout of three stars, and if you finishedin the top three, you will receive atrophy.

9 Time Trials
Ghost data will be savedautomatically whenever you beatyour previous best time for a course.
Select a course onwhich to race soloaiming for the bespossible time. Yocan also racagainst ghost datawhich recreateprevious performances.

10 Balloon Battle
The aim of a BalloonBattle is to pop youropponents' balloonsusing items. Theplayer or team whopops the most balloons within thetime limit wins. Your score is reducedevery time you lose all of yourballoons.
11 Coin Battle
The aim of a CoinBattle is to collectthe coins scatteredthroughout thestage. The player orteam who collects the most coinswithin the time limit wins. You willlose some coins if you are knockedover or spin out of control and soon.
12 Starting a Local Wireless Match
Up to eight players can play a localwireless match (requires at least oneMARIO KART 7 Game Card and asmany Nintendo 3DS systems asplayers).
Note: Players without a Game Cardcan join via Download Play.

13 Precautions
If you connect to the internet, youcan play with other players at noadditional cost. Please keep thefollowing in mind when you playonline:● When you have wireless
connection enabled, the names ofyour Mii characters or yourcomments will be publiclyavailable, so please refrain fromincluding any information that canbe used to identify you personallyor information that may beoffensive.
● Friend codes are a part of asystem that allows you to playwith people you know. If you postyour friend codes online orexchange them with strangers,there is a risk that you couldreceive information or messageswith offensive language orinappropriate content, and thatstrangers may see informationabout you that you do not wantthem to see. We thereforerecommend that you do not giveyour friend codes to people youdo not know.
● Nintendo reserves the right tosuspend the service for users whocause performance issues and/ordamage to others through theunauthorised modification of theirgame data or software.

● If you are unable to join a game,wait a while and then try again.
● Recent opponents and people metvia StreetPass can be removedfrom the list by highlighting themand pressing . You will nolonger be able to see each other'sonline status, or join each other'sgames.
Select who you wish tojoin from your onlinefriends, previousopponents and thepeople you have metvia StreetPass. Once you join them,you can play against them online.
● You must have a MARIO KART 7Game Card inserted in yourNintendo 3DS system to join agame from the friend list.
● The indicator ( ) will appear onthe HOME Menu friend list icon( ) when there is a friend online

A group of up to eight people,including yourself, will be createdfrom the community members. Youcan exchange simple messages tocommunicate with the other playersin the group. The game will startwhen one player sends the "Let'sstart the game!" message.
Create a community and you canchoose the game settings for it. Yourcommunity will be assigned a codewhich you can tell your friends. Byselecting ENTER CODE and inputtingthe code, they will be able to joinand play.
Note: Once a community is created,the settings cannot be changed. Forthis reason, please take care whencreating communities.
This is determined by the resultsfrom the last month of games playedin the community.

18 Mario Kart Channel
The Mario Kart Channel allows youto exchange data with other playersusing StreetPass and SpotPass. Thefirst time you use the Mario KartChannel, follow the on-screeninstructions to create data on theSD Card and configure settings forStreetPass and SpotPass.
View recommended communities.
Challenge ghost data downloadedvia SpotPass and StreetPass.
Check profiles newly received viaStreetPass. You can join theseplayers and play online.
View a list of players you have metvia StreetPass.

● SettingsHere you can configure variousoptions, such as StreetPass,SpotPass and gyro sensor settings,and choose whether others can seeyour region settings and onlinestatus.

Whilst the system is in Sleep Mode,it will automatically search for awireless access point and connect tothe internet, downloading ghost datafrom players around the world,community recommendations and soon.SpotPass is active only when thesystem is in Sleep Mode and withinrange of a compatible internetaccess point.
● Activation ProcedureSelect MARIO KART CHANNEL fromthe main menu. Follow the on-screeninstructions to activate SpotPass forthis software.
