2. 2 Verses 1-19 lists all the men in Solomons administration. He had men for every job. It is wise to delegate authority, and he did. 7 And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, which provided victuals for the king and his household: each man his month in a year made provision. 3. 3 (TLB) 20 Israel and Judah were a wealthy, populous, contented nation at this time. 21 King Solomon ruled the whole area from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines and down to the borders of Egypt. The conquered peoples of those lands sent taxes to Solomon and continued to serve him throughout his lifetime. 4. 4 (TLB) 22-23 The daily food requirements for the palace were 195 bushels of fine flour, 390 bushels of meal, 10 oxen from the fattening pens, 20 pasture-fed cattle, 100 sheep, and, from time to time, deer, gazelles, roebucks, and plump fowl. Solomon was feeding a lot of people. 5. 5 27 And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon's table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing. 28 Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries(one humped camel) brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge. Twelve men over twelve districts took turns providing all that was needed; Apparently Judah was exempted from this. 6. 6 (TLB) 25 Throughout the lifetime of Solomon, all of Judah and Israel lived in peace and safety; and each family had its own home and garden. Those were the good old days of Israel. None of their neighbors were raiding and taking their garden produce or livestock. 7. 7 26 And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. In Deuteronomy 17 God told Israel how their king should behave. God said they should not have horses. Verse 16 In verse 17 they should not have multiple wives. Not too much gold and silver. 8. 8 God gave Solomon Wisdom, but he did not always live wisely. He was supposed to make his own copy of Gods Word, keep it with him, read it, and do it. Deut 17 Solomon had thousands of horses with chariots and riders; trust in God or in horses? 1 Kings 11 3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart. 9. 9 Nehemiah 13:26 (NIV) 26 Was it not because of marriages like these that Solomon king of Israel sinned? Among the many nations there was no king like him. He was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel, but even he was led into sin by foreign women. Christians should date and marry Christians. 2 Cor 6:14 10. 10 Wisdom is the ability to live life successfully. God gave Wisdom to Solomon, but he didnt always use it. 11. 11 the heart; also used (figurative) very widely for the feelings, the will and even the intellect; Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary. In addition to Wisdom and Understanding, God gave Solomon Largeness of heart. V29 MH It is very desirable, that those who have large gifts of any kind, should have large hearts to use them for the good of others. 12. 12 32 And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five. 33 And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. 34 And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom. Solomon was a multi-gifted man. 13. 13 2 Kings 23 13 And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king (Josiah) defile. Solomon built the idols, and Josiah tore them down. 14. 14 Ecclesiastes 2 8 I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts. 9 So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. 10 And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labor: and this was my portion of all my labor. 15. 15 11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labor that I had labored to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. Solomon turned from God unto his own works, and he found that his life was empty and vain. Be careful of the temptation to do it your way. Lean not to your own understanding. Prov 3:5 16. 16 As the Apostle Paul warned his spiritual son Timothy, we must not neglect the gifts God has given us, but rather use them for Gods glory. 1 Tim 4:14 1 Corinthians 12 14 For the body is not one member, but many. 18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased Him. 27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 17. 17 If we have the church that God wants in this place, we must each and every one give ourselves freely to the work for which God has gifted us. We can not drift along, each going his own way, and see Gods Will accomplished. God has made us a part of something bigger than ourselves; we must be a part. 18. 18 We must work together with one mind and purpose. Philippians 2:1-2 (TLB) Tell yourself, God has made me a part of this church. I am an essential part. I will do my part for success.
