French Café-TheatreLast Thursday, 80 students
from the Year 8-11 French classes ran their annual Café-Theatre to enthusiastic parents, family and teachers. Students were involved in
performances (plays learnt in class, music and dance), running the café, presenting, stage managing, and handling the sound and camera/video. Parents commented on how amazing it was to hear their child speaking in French. Everyone enjoyed pastries (from Ludo’s Gourmet Kitchen at Avoca) and the chocolate mousse (made by the Year 9 French class). All students did well in spite of
being nervous, with a highlight being Year 10’s surprise Flash Mob to Mika’s ‘Elle me dit’! Thanks to Wendy Van Der
Veer who ran the café, Brenton Luchow who supervised sound and cameras and Laurence Anthony for coaching and crowd control. A big thank you goes to students for their enthusiasm and a job well done, and to their parents and family for encouragement and support.

For centuries Bible experts have argued about the point when someone is ‘saved’ and whether you can lose your place in Heaven once you’ve got it.Thetruthofthematteris,onthefinaldaywhenyou’restandingfacetofacewithJesus,thesimplequestionwillbe:‘Doyouknowme?’Youseeitdoesn’t matter what we’ve done and what we’ve said. The question is: do youhavearealrelationshipwithJesus?Whenyoulookintosomeone’seyes,you both know whether or not you have a relationship. There’s only two of you, you can’t fake it or pretend you have if you’ve not. Nothing needs to be said, you both know exactly where you stand.
So remember, although you can look like a fantastic Christian on paper, it’s really all about you and Jesus-nothing else matters.

Campus NewsSpeech Night 2012Our speech night programs for this year will be held on Thursday, December 6 in the Sport Centre. Primary (K-6) will commence at 4.30pm and Secondary at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come along to celebrate a successful 2012.
2013 Bus/Rail PassesThe Ministry of Transport requires all students going into Year 3 & Year 7 in 2013 to reapply for their bus or train pass. An application form can be collected from the school office and needs to be returned ASAP. Failure to complete a new application may mean your child will be ineligible for free travel in 2013. Students in other years who currently hold a free travel pass will be automatically reissued with a new one next year.
De-registering StudentsIf your child is leaving at the end of this year or at any time during the year, a term’s notice is required to avoid a financial penalty. Advise the school of your child’s withdrawal by writing or emailing Mr Bennetts outlining the date that your child is leaving and the reasons - [email protected]. If you wish to discuss any issue that may assist your child staying at school, please arrange an interview with Mr Bennetts.
Withdrawal From SchoolIf you withdraw children during the school year please be aware that class and elective charges are not refunded pro rata, but are dependent on whether the charges included have been incurred. Some charges are flat charges regardless of whether the child is at the school for 1 week or the full year.
Library NewsOverdue Books Procedure Please note that each term the library will be producing a list of outstanding library books. We will be notifying you three times prior to adding charges so if you do not have the item or require it longer please notify us immediately.The following process will take place:• End of each term a reminder notice of outstanding
items is sent to class teachers • Approx. week 3 of following term a notice will be
mailed home• End of term notice of charges for previous terms over

Text book returns – Years 10 & 12Year 12 students who are finishing/finished (YAY!) their exams, please remember to return textbooks ASAP so that the new Year 12 students can use them. Please remember to bring your de-registration form if you think everything has been returned!Year 10 students as you finish your final exams next week (YAY!) please return all textbooks and library books before going on work experience.
Library Books It is nearing the end of the year – only four and a half weeks until Speech Night! If you have any library books lying around the house, under the bed, in the car glove box, at nanna’s house, or in your desk or school bag, please return them ASAP. Students will be getting reminders in class and a letter home in the next few weeks.
Food and drink in the libraryALL food and drink must remain outside the library. Only bottled water is allowed to be brought in. Please respect this rule, so that we can keep the library clean and tidy. Demerits and orange cards will be issued.
Uniform ShopUniform OrdersPre-Kindy, Year 6 and Year 10 parents, please have all uniform orders in by November 7, so that we can ensure that no one misses out.
Canteen NewsMunch MonitorOur online canteen service provider, Munch Monitor, has been sold to Country Wide Food Service Distributors.Everything will continue as it has – any credit you may currently have with Munch Monitors will be transferred to Country Wide – all charges will remain the same. The website and ordering process also remain unchanged.
PathfindersFor all those who attended our Club Camp we hope you have recovered from your epic hike on the Saturday, such an awesome effort by young and the old…er alike. We had a fantastic weekend in the beautiful, rugged
Australian bush and were certainly blessed with great weather.Information on our End of Year Activity Night planned for Saturday, 10 November has been emailed by your Unit leaders. Road to BethlehemRoad to Bethlehem Volunteer ApplicationWith only a few weeks to go, there are still so many positions to be filled. To ensure this year’s event is a success we will need volunteers to help fill the following
positions: soldiers, drama actors, help with set up & pull down, drama & market decorators, face painting, craft helpers, sound and ticket booking coordinator. So we are now inviting you to once again, or for the first time to get involved in the program. We have extended the registration until Friday, 9 November. So come on, don’t be shy... get involved in your RTB this year.

Primary NewsStudent Nominations being sought for External Engagement AwardsThe University of Newcastle has offered to sponsor two awards to be presented at Speech Night. The awards are for two students (one from primary and one from high school) who have actively engaged with the community outside of any school involvement via charity work, community service, musical participation, sports, etc. Students will receive a trophy, certificate and cash prize.We are asking for the school community to nominate worthy recipients for consideration. If you would like to nominate a student, please send in or email the student’s name and supporting information, detailing in what capacity they have been involved or contributing to the wider community over 2012. All nominations must be submitted by Friday, 9 November, 2012.Nominations will be presented to School Staff to select the award recipients.Please send nominations to Rebecca Stratford: [email protected]

Basketball CompetitionThe Central Coast Basketball competition was held last week at Terrigal Stadium. We had 3 teams enter and did very well in our competition. Our 3/4 boys won their division and our 5/6 teams were runners up in their divisions. Thank you to Mr Hayes, Mr Kosmeier and Mr McLean for their coaching on the day.
2012 Basketball ChallengeOn Wednesday, 24 October, a group of seven Year 4 boys represented our school at the 2012 Basketball Challenge. The boys competed against Year 3/4 teams from Green Point Christian School, Terrigal Primary and Woodport Primary. The students were: Seth Chapman, Oliver Chippendale, Sebastian Ennis-Wallace, Callum MacIntosh, Nathanael McLean, Harrison Steele and Mackenzie Zammit. They represented our school with excellence - well done!
Total SoccerTotal Football Academy will be running an after School soccer program in Term 4 at Central Coast Adventist. Registration forms will be distributed during a free demonstration. During the 6 week program games will be played inside an inflatable soccer field, which captures the imagination of students, giving them a great soccer experience. Training will take place inside a skills square focusing on different skills each week, such as dribbling, turning and shooting. Places are still available for the morning and afternoon session. Tennis CoachingTennis Coaching is available at school on Mondays. If you are interested, Term 4 group bookings are available. Please call Coach Louise on 0429 160 466. All ages and abilities catered for.
CIS GymnasticsAll the best to Seren Burrows for the CIS Gymnastics Championships next Wednesday in Sydney. This is a very high level of competition but we know that Seren will do herself and the school proud.
Infant Swimming CarnivalJust a reminder that our Infant swimming carnival is coming up next month on November 23 at the Peninsula Leisure Centre. This is for students in Kindy and Year 1. A letter has been sent home with more details of the day.

Year 7 Volcano Explosions
Year 7 students have been building a composite volcano over the past two weeks (we have survived flour and water and paint – just!) and got the chance to ‘explode’ (not an OHS term I am sure) on Monday and Tuesday this
week. No year 7 students were hurt in the blowing up of the volcanoes – picture proof!- Mrs Tracey Bennetts
Year 9 Personal Development DayLast week all year 9 students participated in a personal development day run by Rising Generations – a company that challenge and encourage Australia’s young people to become the people they were designed to be.
The boys program was called Might Men and they talked about:Session 1 Laying a strong foundation – communicating effectively, building positive relationships, identifying hurdles and building strength through everyday challengesSession 2 Building up Mighty Men – dealing with expectations and pressures, uncovering passions and values, taking a stand, goal setting, motivation, self-control, resolving conflict, building self confidenceSession 3 Extensions and Maintenance – respect for themselves and others, developing resilienceThe girls Program was called Celebrating Sisterhood and they talked about:Session 1 Laying a strong foundation – communicating effectively, building positive relationships, identifying hurdles and building strength through everyday challengesSession 2 Building a support network, self identity and worth, resolving conflict, who influences me, decision making and values, the power of words, being courageous and taking a stand, motivation and attitudes.
Session 3 Empowered for Life - respect for themselves and others, developing resilienceIt was a fun, active and challenging time – the students were pleasantly surprised about what they learnt about themselves and others.- Mrs Tracey Bennetts
Secondary SportAICES Water Polo TrialsThursday this week we will have Isabella Faulder (Yr 7) trial for selection in the AICES Water Polo team and we wish her lots of luck. Also we have our Boys U17 Water Polo team competing in a gala event that also serves as a selection trial for the AICES Boys team. Good luck to the following boys who are in that team – Jai McNamara, Lachlan Faulder, Nick Rowe, Jarred Brown, Nick Fallon, Jayden Hodgson, Ethan Hodgson, Tyler Hodgson & Matt Day. A big thanks to Mrs Stacey Hodgson for coaching the boys team on the day as well.
HRIS Junior Touch FootballLast week on Tuesday, our junior boys and girls touch footy teams travelled to Nelson Bay to compete against 9 other schools. The girls had a fantastic day with one close loss against St Phillip’s Port Stephens in the pool games and 2 strong wins against Bishop Tyrell and Scone Grammar. In the cross over game with Macquarie College, the girls took a 1-0 lead and with terrific defence held
on to win and go into the grand final, where they met up with St Phillip’s Port Stephens again. The final was locked at 0-0 until the last 8 mins when our opposition scored down the wing. Our girls rallied and despite the fatigue and heat they kept attacking the tryline and were nearly successful quite a few times. In the end the score remained at 1-0 and our girls were awarded silver medals after a fantastic day’s efforts. CCAS is very proud of the following girls – Jasmine Forcadilla, Jess-Ellen Standen, Sophie Lane, Alannah Hook, Zoe Armstrong, Bronty Van Buizen, Freyja Murray, Phoebe Hayman, Steph Howarth
and Paris Forcadilla.The boys team was quite young this year with no Year 9’s in the group and throughout the day, they began to work really well as a unit. Their improvement with every game was quite evident, and their loss to the overall winners of the day was only by 3 tries and demonstrated huge determination and good communication with each other. Huge thanks to the 3 boys who filled in on the team at very late notice. The players were – Ethan Hodgson, Tyler Hodgson, Zac Tikoicina, Ratu Naividi, Jacob Talafua,
Hunter Thompson, Oliver Patterson, Zane Allum, Hayden McKenzie, Tom Dickason and Patrick Rae.
Well Done!Last Friday, Harrison Zammit (Year 7) represented AICES at the NSW CIS 15’s Boys Tennis trials. He said it was a terrific experience and there were many talented, strong players, hitting really hard. Despite his young age, Harrison made it through to the quarter finals and CCAS is so very proud of his efforts. Good job!
Graham Brown Basketball ChallengeOn 19 November our Year 9 & 10 basketball teams will finally take part in the Graham Brown Basketball Challenge that was postponed earlier in the year. We wish them a great day. Permission notes have gone out to all players – please return them ASAP.
Boys Basketball Trial GameOur U15 and U17 Boys Basketball teams that are going to Melbourne at the end of the year have a preparation trial game arranged for next Thursday afternoon (leaving at 2:45pm) against Knox Grammar School. Permission notes will go home this week at Thursday practice – please return it ASAP. Good luck boys!
