FROM THE EXECUTIVE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents and Guardians

Woodcrest College is a wonderful school with amazing facilities, wonderful students, enthusiastic staff and supportive parents. The College is situated in the dynamic city of Springfield, which is growing in population and infrastructure by the day. I believe that Woodcrest State College is one of the top schools in Queensland and that each and every student helps contribute to the advancement of our school. Woodcrest State College will start 2020 with approximately 1800 students from Prep to Year 12. Our Primary School will have about 800 students and our Secondary School about 1000 students are all located on the one relatively flat site. Each sub school has a Principal and there are three Deputy Principals in both the Primary and Secondary Schools.

Being a P-12 campus provides us with wonderful opportunities to utilise the extensive facilities to tailor programs for students and advance their learning. The school vision is ‘Inspiring Students to Succeed’ and we aim to inspire each and every student to be the very best they can be. Parents of Woodcrest State College play a crucial role in supporting students and staff and ensuring we make this vision a reality and insisting that Woodcrest is a ‘World Class School.’ I trust that all in our school community have made you and your children welcome to our school.

The College will start the 2020 school year having the vast majority of teaching spaces air-conditioned. While Air-conditioning of classrooms does not directly lead to enhanced educational outcomes, as someone who has led two schools that were air-conditioned, I can attest to the fact that it does have a positive impact on the learning environment. I have witnessed an increase in the amount of student learning time as students want to return to cool calm environment at the end of each break. A cool calm environment also decreases the instances of behaviour, can reduce stress on students and staff and can alleviate distractions as windows don’t need to be open.

To enhance educational outcomes for all students the College has adopted Reading as the College’s explicit improvement agenda from Prep through to Year 12. A unified approach to teaching that is known as the RESPECT for Learning pedagogical framework operates in classrooms in the College. Over the last few years, the college has introduced several other programs that are designed to enhance the learning outcomes for our students and variety of learning experiences to ensure that Woodcrest State College is the school of choice in Greater Springfield.

Listed below are some of the significant achievements of our Students:

Most improved school for NAPLAN Results in the Metropolitan region.

100% QCE (fourth successive year)

100% VET Cert II or higher

49% (52 students/106) Cert III.

30 students (28%) awarded an OP.

100% of students who applied to QTAC received an offer.

Top student received 44 QCE points. Other Significant Achievements in the College included:

A strategic ICT plan was developed and is being implemented.

A BYOD program was launched in 2018 and more than 700 students are now part of the program.

The school continued to enjoy great success in a variety of sports in both the Primary School (Central District) and the Secondary School (Jagera District).

New playground equipment has been installed in the primary school.

Refurbishment of ‘the Hangar’ is now complete with five state of the art and ICT spaces (total cost exceeded $800 000).

As can be identified above there are many costs associated with providing the quality educational opportunities which all our students deserve. The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) is designed to help parents with the cost of resources for your students education. As a parent who has three children who went to different high schools. I can attest to the fact that it is much cheaper and far simpler for parent to be part of a Student Resource Scheme than having to purchase a text book per subject for all subjects which is only used for a year.

To ensure your student continues to be well-resourced from the first day of term please complete and sign the Student Resource Scheme (SRS) Participation Agreement Form and return it to the College.

The student Resource Scheme organised by the College, operates under the policy and guidelines of the Department of Education (DoE) and is approved annually by the P&C Association.

Thank you for your support for the College and for the Student Resource Scheme (SRS) that allows every student in our College to start school being well prepared and resourced for the year ahead. Regards

Patrick Murphy Executive Principal Woodcrest State College

STATE SCHOOL CONSENT FORM A State School Consent form is to be completed for all new enrolments. Please complete (Appendix C) if you are enrolling or wish to update your consent details and return to [email protected] or to your subschool student service area.

STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME

As per Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (Qld) a parent is directly responsible for providing textbooks and other resources for a student’s use while attending school. The 2020 Student Resource Scheme (SRS) operates under the policy and guidelines of the Department of Education and Training (DET), is approved annually and endorsed by the P&C Association. The following page outlines the resources provided as part of the scheme and value of the resource provided. As you will see on the resource list, participation in the scheme is a significant saving compared to individuals purchasing resources as well as time saving for families. Please complete the SRS Participation Agreement Form (Appendix D) to formalise your participation in the scheme and to advise of your payment intentions. For payment methods that are available (see page 11) and Payment plan arrangements can be made via email to [email protected]. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions on the back of the Participation Agreement Form items 1 - 38.

Parents who do not wish to participate in the scheme should indicate NO on the Participation Agreement Form and return it via email to [email protected] or to the relevant subschool student service area. These parents will however be expected to provide all necessary textbooks and resources for their student as detailed on the following lists.

YEAR 10 STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME The objective of the Student Resource Scheme (SRS) is to offer parents an economic alternative to the purchase of school resources and textbooks and to enhance and maximise resources available for student learning. While membership of this scheme is not compulsory, the College strongly encourages your participation. Parent contribution to the Student Resource Scheme for 2020 is $250 for Senior Secondary. (For Year 10 that is $380.00 less the $130.00 Government Textbook and Resource Allowance). This is approximately $6.25 per week. The Government Textbook and Resource Allowance is paid directly to the school for eligible students. The Department of Education and Training pays a Government Textbook and Resource Allowance (TRA) for Secondary students to the College for students in Years 7-12. For payment methods that are available (see page 11). A payment plan is offered to families, and is to be paid in 3 instalments.

Certain students are not entitled to the (TRA), namely Exchange Students, Full Fee-Paying Students, Adult Students (aged 18 years and older) and Students from other states enrolling after the cut-off date (the first Friday in August). The Department encourages schools to provide Student Resource Schemes to minimise costs for parents. Please see the back of the Participation Agreement Form for eligibility.

Instalments are paid in the first two weeks of the first 3 terms.

Term 1 - $90

Term 2 - $80

Term 3 - $80 All subjects receive reproduced class materials and teacher prepared materials which compliment and/or substitute textbooks and may be supplied in hardcopy, class set or electronic format.

BYOD OUTLINE

What is BYOD? Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is a term used to describe a digital device ownership model where students and/or staff use their privately owned devices to access the departmental networks and information management systems in an educational setting.

BYOD recognises that technology and choices about technology are very much personal.

BYOD acknowledges technology in education enhances opportunities to meet specific curriculum requirements.

BYOD is designed to give you, as students and families, freedom to make technology choices that suit you and all your circumstances.

In 2020 Year 5 and 6 students will be joining the Woodcrest BYOD program by an Expression of Interest application. All year 7, 8, 11 and 12 students are expected to attend school with their own device. All Catalyst students in year 9 and 10 are also expected to bring their own device. All other students in years 9 to 10 are highly encouraged to participate in the program. IT devices are a powerful means of differentiating and personalising a student’s education and student-owned devices allows student choice regarding which applications best suits their learning and communication style. We are giving families control over the choice of IT device students use at school (within specifications). What type of device can you bring? The expectation of Woodcrest State College is a laptop device. Devices that support Windows operating systems will provide students with the most advantage. Some devices such as Tablets may connect to the BYOD network however we will not provide technical support to these devices. There are a range of devices in a range of price categories that meet the device specification requirements. Minimum specifications Non-Technical Subjects and Years 5 and 6
