Banking & Financial Awareness

1. The World Bank will provide aid to Bangladesh over the next three years to fight child malnutrition_____US $1 billion.

Note:

The announced investment will support programs to ensure sufficient child nutritionand include a conditional

cash transfer scheme targeted at six lakh poor families in 43 sub-districts.

The Bank’s new announced assistance is almost a 100% increase in investment compared to previous 3-year

period.

2. Who has become the first Indian lender to complete a banking transaction using blockchain technology____ICICI Bank.

Note:

This remittance transaction has been completed in partnership with Emirates NBD, a lender from the West Asia.

3. Who has topped the 2016 Global Power City Index (GPCI), as per 2016 GPCI report___London.

Note:

The Index has been released by the Japan-based Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies.

Mumbai, the only Indian city, ranked 39th on the list of the world’s leading global cities for business, innovation

and culture.

4. The loan amount has been sanctioned by World Bank for construction of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC)-

III project of India____ $650 million.

Note:

The Government of India (GoI) has signed $650 million loan agreement with the World Bank (WB) for

construction of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC)-III project.

The EDFC-III will build the 401 km Ludhiana-Khurja section which goes through Punjab, Haryana and Uttar

Pradesh.

5. TRAI has recommended to the imposition penalty on Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea cellular for allegedly denying

interconnectivity to Reliance Jio___Rs. 3,050 crore.

Note:

TRAI has found the three companies to be non-compliant with license conditions regarding giving interconnection

to Reliance Jio customers.

It also noted that denial of interconnection by these operators to RJio appears to be with the ulterior motive to

stifle competition and is anti-consumer.

6. The Union Government has formally granted a licence to Europe’s third-biggest oil company BP to set up pumps in India

___3,500 petrol Pumps.

Note:

BP has been granted the licence to market Motor Spirit (petrol) and High-Speed Diesel(diesel).

State-owned Indian Oil Corp (IOC) owns 25,363 petrol pumps, Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) 13,802

stations and Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) 13,439 outlets.

7. Foreign Portfolio Investors have pulled out nearly how many crore from the Indian debt markets in the first two weeks of

The bank has 736 branches across North East together with 3,000 ATMs and 3,000 customer service points for

customer facilitation.

10. The GST Council reached a consensus on the way the states would be compensated for any loss of revenue after

implementation of the new indirect tax regime, GST from _____1 April 2017.

The Annual Conference of Inspectors General of Police of States and Union Territories held in January 1960

decided that 21st October will be observed as Commemoration Day in all Police Lines throughout India to mark

Japan's Morinari Watanabe has been elected as the new President of the International Gymnastics Federation

(IFG) at the world governing body’s congress in Tokyo, Japan.

He will succeed Bruno Grandi.

The headquarters of IFG is at Lausanne, Switzerland.

15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the war memorial in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh_____‘Shaurya Smarak‘.

Note:

The ‘Shaurya Smarak‘ has been constructed by the state government in honor of those who laid down their lives

for the country.

The Smarak built over an area of 12.67 acres of land and was developed at an expense of 41 crore rupees includes

a 62-foot “Shaurya Stambh”.

Various stages of life, war, death and victory over death have been displayed here.

The memorial is the first-of-its-kind and unique Shourya Smarak in the country.

16. Union Govt. to use the network for distribution of subsidized pulses____Postal network.

Note:

The decision was taken in the Inter-Ministerial Committee on prices of essential commodities headed by Union

Consumer Affairs Secretary, Hem Pande in New Delhi.

The committee reviewed availability and prices of essential commodities specially pulses and suggested that in the

absence of government outlets in the states, postal networks should be used for the distribution.

17. Who has performed skin transplant harvesting skin from a brain dead patient _ JIPMER Puducherry.

Note:

This is the first time such a transplant done in a government hospital in the country.

The skin taken from the dead patient is transplanted to a person with burn injuries and another patient with a

chronic nonhealing wound.

JIPMER is among the few hospitals in the country to have license from the Government of India for Cadaveric

Tissue Transplant.

18. DMRC Managing Director Dr. Mangu Singh has launched free Wi-Fi facilities at Metro stations on its _____Airport Express
