1. Remove waste products from blood that are produced from digestion and cell respiration
2. Help to maintain electrolytes, Ph. & fluid balance in the body.
3. Release hormones that help keep bones healthy, to produce red blood cells & to regulate blood pressure.
FUNCTION OF THE SYSTEM
MAJOR ORGANS & THEIR FUNCTIONS
Kidneys1. The two kidneys (bean shaped) located in
the back of your lower abdomen of your body are the organs used for the elimination of the liquid waste.
2. They filter and clean the blood which produces urine which is sent to the ureters.
MAJOR ORGANS & THEIR FUNCTIONS
Ureter1. The Ureter tubes are two tubes that move
through each of the kidneys and connect to the bladder.
2. Urine is moved through these from the kidneys to the bladder.
MAJOR ORGANS & THEIR FUNCTIONS
Bladder
1. The urinary bladder is a sac like organ used to store urine.(it can hold up to half a liter at most)
2. This is a storage sac for the urine until it is release out the urethra out into the world.
MAJOR ORGANS & THEIR FUNCTIONS
NephronThe overall function of the Nephron is to filter liquid in the kidneys.
Unfiltered liquid comes in throughthe red access point.
Filtered liquid leaves through the blue access point back into the body on its way out.
MAJOR ORGANS & THEIR FUNCTIONS
GlomerulusThis jumbled up tangled ball of capillaries filters through:
Water Electrolytes Amino acids Glucose Urea And other small molecules
PROBLEMS ANDDISEASES
Diabetes
Diabetes is known as Diabetes Mellitus. There are 2 types of Diabetes.
Type 1 DM: Results from the pancreas' failure to produce enough insulin. The cause is unknown.
PROBLEMS ANDDISEASES
Diabetes
Type 2 DM: Begins with insulin resistance, a condition in which cells fail to respond to insulin properly. As the disease progresses a lack of insulin may also develop.

PROBLEMS ANDDISEASES
Diabetes
Gestational Diabetes, is the third main form and occurs when pregnant women without a previous history of diabetes develop a high blood sugar level.
Diabetes is due to either the pancreas not producing enough insulin or the cells of the body not responding properly to the insulin produced.
• Kidney failure is a condition in which the kidneys lose the ability to remove waste and balance fluids.
This is a steadfast development in which several symptoms include:• Drowsiness• Nausea• Fluid retention• Seizures (in severe cases)• Coma (in severe cases)
PROBLEMS ANDDISEASES
Kidney Failure
If not treated (which it can't be in certain cases), kidney failure can be fatal.
PROBLEMS ANDDISEASES
Kidney Failure
Example of a kidney going through the stages of failing.
TREATMENTS FOR DIABETES
NOW: People with diabetes always have to monitor their blood sugar and according to their blood
sugar they inject themselves with a certain level of insulin.
TREATMENTS FOR DIABETES
Future:But trying to establish a pump worn on the body that can be
programmed to inject a precise amount of insulin at certain times of day.
TREATMENTS FOR KIDNEY FAILURE
Dialysis: Artificially remove waste products and extra fluids from the
blood.
Kidney transplant: A kidney transplant involves surgically removing the sick or failing kidney
and placing a healthy kidney from a donor into your body.
Medication: Incorrect filtration of potassium and/or calcium may cause your doctor
to prescribe medication to remedy this.
