e-Government defined Public Service Act (103 of 1994 as amended 2007)

electronic government means the use of ICT in the public service to improve its internal functioning and to render services to the public;

International Telecommunications Union (Gant, Jon P. (2008)), e Government‑ means “the use of information and communication technologies in

government to provide public services, to improve managerial effectiveness and to promote democratic values; as well as a regulatory framework that facilitates information intensive initiatives and fosters the knowledge society”.

SITA Act (88 of 1998 as amended by Act 38 of 2002) “information technology” means all aspects of technology which are used to

manage and support the efficient gathering, processing, storing and dissemination of information as a strategic resource;

“information systems” means applications and systems to support the business whilst utilising information technology as an enabler or tool;

‘electronic form’ (e-Form) means a form that can be electronically filled in by means of an electronic device that is able to be interpreted by an ICT system.

‘electronic service’ (e-Service) means a public service that is provided by means of an ICT System.
