If one train leaves heading East towards another train that leaves at the same time but headed West, given the speeds of the two trains and assuming acceleration is not a factor, how long will it take for the two trains to meet?

Input- The user will be asked to input the distance the two trains start from each other and the speed the individual trains are traveling.

Output- Since the program only uses integers at this point it will output the number of hours it will take for the trains to meet if they meet on an hour mark if not it will output the distance remaining between the two trains at the last hour mark before they meet. (Once I learn how to use doubles I will be able to get to a answer in minutes)

Example: How far apart are the trains to start: 100 Enter the speed of Train A traveling East: 10 Enter the speed of Train B traveling West: 10 Distance / (Speed of Train A + Speed of Train B) = Time it takes to

meet. Distance – (Time it takes to meet * (SpeedA + SpeedB)) =

Distance remaining after last hour before meeting.

Solution see next slide

11

Solution #include <stdio.h> #include <math.h> int askdistance() { int dist; printf ( "How far apart are the two trains (miles): "); scanf ( "%d", &dist); return dist; }

int aska() { int speed; printf ( "Train A is moving to the East at (mph): "); scanf ( "%d", &speed); return speed; } int askb() { int speed; printf ( "Train B is moving to the West at (mph): "); scanf ( "%d", &speed); return speed; } main() { int A,B,D,timer,meet; D=askdistance(); B=askb(); A=aska(); timer= A+B; meet= D/timer; printf ( "The trains will be %d miles apart in %d hrs.", D-meet*timer, meet); scanf("\n%d", &meet); }
