SRM Operational Details

Proprietary US military battlefield technology Designed to be highly secure RF Packets

Masters Create them Fill with data as necessary Transmit them regularly

Repeaters relay them Slaves fill them with data

RF packet Structure Header Data fields

Viewed at packet level, it is a full duplex RF link

4

Repeaters

Repeaters are Store-and-Forward Adding the first repeater reduces the entire

radio network throughput by 50%. Adding more repeaters does not further reduce throughput. Use back to back radios to eliminate throughput reduction.

Repeaters can be configured to simultaneously operate as slaves

P2P networks can include up to two repeaters P2MP networks can have unlimited repeaters

5

P2P Operation

P2P Operation RF Data handshaking User data cannot be lost in RF link Throughput Radio Identification by Callbook only

6

P2MP Operation

RF Data handshaking User data can be lost in RF link Throughput Radio Identification by

Callbook Network ID Network ID and Subnet ID

7

CallBook – Multiple Paths

A radio can be permitted to communicate with any one of several masters or repeaters.

There is no guaranteed order of connection. Use with caution.

Ethernet Networks: NIC Settings

Network Interface Card (NIC) Settings IP Address Subnet Mask Gateway

Normally the SRM Series Products do not use these settings however LincView diagnostics using UDP will require an IP address set in the master. In current versions of the SRM Ethernet radios it be pinged.

11

Ethernet Networks: Packet Types

Many packet types can be present on an ethernet network including: TCP/IP point to point

Typical MSG instructions Broadcast - DHCP and BootP requests Unigram Data Packets (UDP)

AB Logix engine PLCs use UDP for Producer/Consumer communications Remote I/O over Ethernet

Multi-cast - Streamed data such as video

12

Ethernet Networks: Data Filtering

A function between the user’s equipment and the RF transmitter to permit only necessary data traffic into the RF network.

Filter may not block all unwanted data

Filter is switch selectable

SRM Security

Reference Whitepaper Security Extends beyond RF Technology

Limit Access to radio equipment Secure and change radio configuration

Proprietary technology designed for security and reliability

Slaves cannot “listen in” to other slaves
