Immanuel Christian School Band

We are looking forward to having the Immanuel Christian School band from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, play with, and for, us on Friday morning. We hope to begin the band program at 9 am and if you wish to join us for this free concert, please do so. We’d love to have you! Our EPCS band will join the ICS band on two numbers. See you there!

Annual 7 th/8th Grade Pasta Dinner

Friday Evening, February 12, 5:00pm – 7:30pm

Adult Menu: Meat Lasagna, Cheese Lasagna, Salad, Bread, Dessert & Beverage. The children’s menu will feature Penne Pasta with sauce.

Suggested donation prices are: 12 years and over - $7.00, Ages 6-11 - $4.00

Including Immediate Family members, no more than $30 per family

Tickets are available from any 7th/8th grader or through the office-597-4400.

This looks to be another wonderful evening of delicious food and good fellowship, with proceeds going towards the 7th/8th grade fund.

Hearing and Vision Screenings will be done on Wednesday, February 24th by the Newark School Nurse. She will begin testing at 11:30, starting with the Pre-K-K class as they leave at noon.

Change for Education Change for Education is underway and the coins/bills are coming in. Classrooms are in competition to see who can raise the most money for their class. Weekly totals will be coming soon. February is a short month, so please continue to save over winter break!

EPCS Open House The East Palmyra Christian School will be

holding an Open House on Thursday, February 25 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Invite others to come see the campus, tour the classrooms, meet the teachers, and talk with other parents about the difference a Christian education can make in the life of their child. Student Council News Secret Valentine Week: Students and staff

will enjoy a week of exchanging secret valentines’ treats this week. Boys have been paired with boys and girls with girls. Each day, students will give and receive small items, such as handmade bookmarks and magnets. Students in grades K-6 will make these in class for Monday through Thursday gifts. They are asked to bring in something (perhaps a card and a cookie) for Friday’s gift. Older students are asked to make and give similar items. On Friday, the last gifts will be given and the givers will be revealed. Please limit the amount of the gifts to no more than a couple of dollars for the whole week.

Young Artists Festival – March 8-12 Please encourage your student to work on

his/her project for the art display. ALL students are welcome to enter artwork, crafts, or creative writing. Projects are due Thursday, Mar. 4.

Adopt a Bill Winter is synonymous with large bills, which

Kindergarten & Preschool Math – Telling time to the hour with analog

and digital clocks. ELA –Rhyming Bible – The Ten Commandments Social Studies – We are taking a mini

hiatus from our current work unit to learn about the Chinese New Year (which starts Feb. 14) and President’s Day (Feb. 15).

Valentines: The children should bring in TWO secret valentines on Friday – one for their secret school-wide valentine, and one for their secret classroom valentine.

Report Cards: Please return your child’s report card by Friday. If you had any questions or concerns regarding their report card, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

First & Second Grade Bible: We are continuing to learn about

Jesus’ early ministry. There is no memory verse this week.

Spelling: Everyone has spelling homework this week.

Math: The first graders are continuing to learn about shapes. The second graders are continuing to learn about adding two digit numbers.

Social Studies: We are learning about the presidents and Valentine’s Day this week.

Valentine’s Day: We are making presents for Secret Valentines this week. We are also going to have a small Valentine’s Day celebration on Friday. Please look for an information paper in your child’s folder.

Report Cards: Please return your child’s report card by Friday.

Third & Fourth Grade Thank you to all who drove and helped with

our Punxsutawney Trip. We had a wonderful time!!! Bible: We are finishing our Dioramas. Spelling: No spelling list this week. Social Studies: We will be working on the

Census. Math: Grade 3: We have started a new unit

over the concept of multiplication. This week, we will look at multiplying by 2, 5, and 10. We are also memorizing the first ten multiples of 3.

Grade 4: We are doing a unit about time and graphing. This week we look at elapsed time, calendars, line plots, range and mode, and bar graphs. Our next unit, which we will start shortly

after winter break, is over multiplying one digit by two and three digit numbers. Since it would be VERY helpful to have most multiplication facts memorized, please encourage your child to work with flash cards every night and over the vacation.

Valentine’s Day: Shelley Morgan will bring in cup cakes to the classroom on Feb. 12 for the class to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Would someone , or preferably more than one parent, volunteer to provide frosting (store bought is great) and some assorted sprinkles for the kids to frost and decorate their own cup cakes? 3 containers of frosting should be plenty. Fifth and Sixth Grade Math: Grade 5: We are working on dividing

numbers by two digit divisors this week. Grade 6: Our topic is adding and subtracting with mixed numbers.

Bible: We will look at the account of Job. History: We continue a unit about the

Ancient Greeks. Spelling: No tests this week. We will do

some review work. Spanish 5/6: We meet tomorrow, Tuesday,

February 9th. We will work on learning the ten nouns introduced in our last class. Students should bring their folders and a writing instrument to class.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Pasta Dinner: Students need to sign up

for a specific work shift on the sign up sheet in your classroom. All ticket reservations, money and unsold tickets are due in the office no later than WEDNESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The following families have volunteered to make desserts for the lasagna dinner this Friday: DePerna(2), S. O'Brien, Furdey(2), L. Admiraal, McKaig(2), Lockwood, Butterfield, Fernaays, Morgan, Webb, Wieber, Snelling, Collom(2).

Bible: Test on Thursday about the life of the apostle John. The memory work is I John 4:21-5:2.

Spanish 1A (7 th) This week, we will add the remaining subjects and verb endings for –ar verbs. There will be a quiz on all the subjects and all the verb endings by the end of the week. This is the last lesson in this unit. After vacation, we will review and then take the unit test.

Spanish 1B (8 th) We have begun the unit test on unit 6. The vocabulary, listening, writing and speaking parts are coming up.

Music: The 7/8 music class will be finishing the guitar unit this week. If you lent us a guitar,

Ninth and Tenth Grade Bible: We will be writing the script for a

puppet play over the patriarchs this week. Spanish 2: We have begun the unit test on

unit 2. The vocabulary, listening, writing and speaking parts are coming up.

Spanish 3: Sarah will have a quiz on imperfect tense forms on Tuesday. Then she will review using the preterit and imperfect tenses together.

Music donations: Earlier in the fall, the 7/8 music class surveyed their parents and grandparents, and themselves, about their favorite pieces of music. When the results were compiled, we were able to see many repeats on the list of favorites. I have chosen band music for the next concert based on these top favorites. If you would like to donate a piece of music in honor or memory of a loved one, please let the office know. Thank you!

St. Pauly shed : In 2009 the donations from our shed helped to clothe 3,704 people with approximately 8 articles of clothing each!!!!
