George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens
The name of the Gardens pays tribute to George Brown, Darwin’s much loved and longest serving Lord Mayor who passed away in January 2002. As Curator he was instrumental in re-establishing the Gardens after 80% of its trees were destroyed by Cyclone Tracy in December 1974.
