Placing an eConsult

• To avoid delays, include a thorough review of the case and clearly document the reason that you are placing the eConsult• Refer to imaging or studies that have been performed to justify the referral; specialists can refer to

Orchid for the specific image or study result but including laboratory values in your consult can be helpful to the consultant

• Always follow up on eConsult responses

• Search for previous eConsults before placing your request to avoid duplicate referrals

• Physical or Occupational Therapy• Orchid order: “Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy Outpatient Eval”

• Include a description of the problem and reason for referral

• Social Work • Orchid order: Specialty Request to Social Work

• SW is present in clinic and can see urgent cases depending on availability

• Diabetes TeleRetinal Screening• Orchid order: “Specialty Request to Diabetes TeleRetinal Screen”

• Communication order to your CMA for scheduling

• Wellness Center • Separate colored flyer in clinic

• Open to all local residents without computer referral
