1. WORKSHOP ON IoT

IAS/IES/PELS joint Chapter of Kerala Section together with IEDC Unit of Musaliar College

of Engineering, Chirayinkeezhu conducted a workshop on IoT during Mar 9 – 11 at Musaliar

College of Engineering. Prof Muhammed Kasim, Chair IAS/IES/PELS Jt. Chapter

inaugurated the workshop. Prof Arif M K, HOD CSE & Ms Aswini, IEDC Coordinator of CE

Dept. attended the function. Mr Achus & Mr Nandan from Neo Green labs, Kochi handled

the workshop. The workshop was planned with 80% hands-on training. Training was given

with 4 /3 students per team. 41 students from Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics

participated in the workshop. It was a very useful workshop for the students.

An IEEE Awareness was also given to all participants of the workshop.

2. INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATIONS

Under the auspices of the IA/IE/PELS Jt. Chapter, Women's day celebrations were planned

and held at Musaliar College of Engg, Chirayinkeezhu on Mar 8.

The meeting started at 12.30 pm. The function was inaugurated by Dr pRose Ben, Senior

faculty of the General Egg Dept. Prof Shimi Mohan (EEE), Prof Thusara (ECE) & Ms Aswani

(CE) spoke on the occasion. They highlighted the role of Women Engineers in the field of

academic, Science & Engg, research and in the home affairs.

Special appreciation to the working women was highlighted in the meeting by Prof

Muhammed Kasim. Meeting ended at 1.30 pm.

3.Report_Officer’s training

IA/IE/PELS Jt.Chapter Kerala section has taken initiative to give training to the SB officers of

Musaliar College of Engineering Chirayinkeezhu. The training was conducted on 27th June.

11 office bearers were trained on the day. Prof.Muhammed Kasim, Chair, IA/IE/PELS

Jt.Chapter Kerala section lead the training session.

4. Report of Industrial visit

Industrial visit to Travancore Titanium Products Ltd, Veli, Trivandrum was jointly organized

by IA/IE/PEL Jt.Chapter Kerala section and IAS SB chapter Musaliar Engineering College

Chirayinkeezhu on 11th July 2018. The operations of the company were explained to the

students by the engineers of the company. 56 students & 3 faculty members participated in

the Industrial visit. 12 IEEE Student members & 3 IEEE faculty members joined the trip. The

visit was in the forenoon. After the visit, the students were taken to a nearby tourist

location, namely Veli Park. The students enjoyed the trip.

5. Industrial visit on 20 Oct 2018

Industrial visit to VSSC Space Museum, Trivandrum. An Industrial visit to VSSC Space Museum, Thumba, Trivandrum was jointly organized by IA/IE/PELS Jt. Chapter Kerala Section and IAS SB Chapter Musaliar College of Engineering Chirayinkeezhu on 20th October 2018. We started from the College at 8.45 am and reached the museum at 9.45 am. After getting pass and security check, we moved to the museum accompanied by Security staff. The guide-in Charge took us around the museum. He explained about the different stages of the development of launch vehicle technology in India from SLV , ASLV, PSLV & GSLV. The latest launch of communication satellite GSAT-6A on 29 Mar 2018 and about the technology transfer of the Lithium-ion battery to electric vehicle manufacturers were briefed. The strong position of ISRO among world countries was also briefed when we started air lifting our own

satellites and Satellites for a number of countries. We were shown a documentary revealing the growth of ISRO and the contributions of great Scientists like Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Prof U R Rao, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, Dr. G Madhavan Nair, and so on. 51 students including 31 IEEE Student members & 2 faculty members participated in the Industrial visit.

6. Talk on Power System Protection IAS Jt. Chapter together with PELS SB Chapter of Musaliar College of Engineering conducted a talk on "Power System Protection" by Er K Asokan, Electrical Engineer (Retd), AbhuDabi Electricity & Water Authority on Oct 26th October at Musaliar College of Engineering, Chirayinkeezhu.Welcome address was given by Prof Muhammed Kasim S, Chair, IA/IE/PELS Jt. Chapter. Er. Asokan covered the following topics in his talk. Generation of Power, Requirement of Standby Generators & Protection of the Generating system. He explained in detail with a single line diagram of a H V system using two transformers & two generators. Shutting down of faulty transformers, starting and connecting the first generator meeting the emergency/priority loads within 30 seconds, and starting & connecting the second generator after meeting the requirements of parallel operation within one minute. Manual as well as automatic control and the scope of SCADA is also briefed.

7. Quiz competition by Musaliar Engineering College Chirayinkeezhu

12 Schools participated in the school level quiz competition on Sept 28th. Nearly 600 students

participated.

On Oct 2nd 67 students from 10 schools participated in the finals.

IEEE Day Quiz competition was organised jointly by IEEE SB Musaliar College, IEEE Educational

Society & IA/IE/PELS Jt. Chapter. Seminar on road map to Success was also conducted. Dr Premlet

was the Quiz. master.
