Project, also at the Harvard School of Education, a long-term study investigat-ing the development of individual excellence and expertise. He is also the co-founder of The Center for Individual Opportunity, a non-profit organization that

promotes the principles of individuality in work, school, and society.

Opt not to use one-dimensional thinking to understand something that’s complex,

like a human being. Instead, if you look at the whole person - talent, character, intelligence -

you’ll recognize a more jagged profile that’s unique to each individual.

Context matters. Individual behavior cannot be explained or predicted apart

from a particular situation, and the influence of a situation cannot be specified without reference to the individual experiencing it.

In all aspects of our lives and for any given goal, there are many, equally valid

ways to reach the same outcome. As such, the particular pathway that is optimal for you depends on your own individuality.

Hiring TipWhen hiring, instead of focusing on

the ‘essence’ of the employee, it’s wise to focus on the performance that you need the employee to perform, and the context

in which that performance will occur.

As leaders, if you make the decision to value individual uniqueness, that decision

must be an unwavering commitment.

Leadership TipThe most evolved leaders write in a journal

and do it every day. A few minutes to reflect on your day will not only reveal critical patterns

to observe; more importantly, they’ve been proven to improve your mood, your confidence,

and even your immune system.

If you’re a leader in a fast paced, modern environment; pause to first think about who you are, and understand that

speed and ability are not correlated. Commit to learning at your own pace.
