From 10 May Star trek into darkneSS (Cert TBC) 3d/2d director: J. J. abrams. Starring: Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg. USa 2013. tBC mins.

Opening as Spock (Quinto) battles to stop a volcano on the planet Nibiru from destroying the Enterprise, Abrams second STAR TREK outing visually out-stuns even his first. But Abrams knows better than simply to gorge on CGI, and with Cumberbatch as the heinous villain, plus many old hands back on board, hes built a narrative spine thats as robust and complex as the Enterprise itself.

From 10 May GiMMe the loot 5 director: adam leon. Starring: tashiana Washington, ty hickson, Joshua rivera, Zo lescaze. USa 2012. 79 mins.

Graffiti artists Malcolm (Hickson) and Sofia (Washington) plan an audacious tag at Shea Stadium, but need $500 to bribe their way in. Featuring highly talented newcomers, this absorbing, consistently amusing film follows their increasingly desperate efforts, which involve dope-dealing, a jewellery heist, and a spoilt little rich girl (Lescaze).

From 17 May MUd 2A director: Jeff nichols. Starring: Matthew McConaughey, reese Witherspoon, tye Sheridan, Jacob lofland. USa 2012. 130 mins.

On an island there is a boat, and in that boat lives a man called Mud (McConaughey), whose past is as murky as the Mississippi that swirls around him. When 14-year-old Ellis (Sheridan) and Neckbone (Lofland) venture across the river, the trios surprise encounter drags them all into a world of bounty hunters, unrequited love, and those strange, magical moments that transform boys into men.Contains moderate violence and sex references.

  • From 17 May the Great GatSBy 2A 3d/2d director: Baz luhrmann. Starring: leonardo diCaprio, Carey Mulligan, tobey Maguire, Joel edgerton. australia/USa 2013. 143 mins.

This glorious 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgeralds jazz-era novel has Leonardo DiCaprio as the maverick playboy Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan (DRIVE) as Gatsbys love interest Daisy, Joel Edgerton (ZERO DARK THIRTY) as her philandering husband, and Tobey Maguire (SPIDER-MAN) as the writer who witnesses their unravelling. Contains moderate sex, violence and bloody images.

From 24 May the hanGoverPart iii (Cert TBC) director: todd Phillips. Starring: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, ed helms, Justin Bartha. USa 2013. tBC mins.

In the final instalment of the hilariously hapless trilogy, Alan, Stu, Phil and Doug are all present and politically incorrect, abetted by Jeffrey Tambor as Alans father and Heather Graham as Jade, Stus accidental wife from episode one. Standout moments include Alan salaciously sharing a lollipop with BRIDESMAIDS Melissa McCarthy, and his soon-to-be immortal line, I just bought a giraffe, my life is perfect, just before it patently isnt.

From 31 May PoPUlaire 2A director: rgis roinsard. Starring: romain duris, dborah Franois. France 2012. 111 mins. French with english subtitles.

In 1950s Normandy, country girl Rose (Franois, THE PAGE TURNER) follows her dream of becoming a secretary. When her new boss Louis (Duris, THE BEAT THAT MY HEART SKIPPED) decides to enter her for the local speed-typing competition, he moves her into his country house to oversee the training personally. If you combined the wit and charm of THE ARTIST with the period feel of Mad Men, the result would be this enjoyable romcom.Contains a moderate sex scene.

From 5 June the Stone roSeS:Made oF Stone (Cert TBC) director: Shane Meadows. Featuring: the Stone roses.Uk 2013. tBC mins.

In 2012 a resurrection no one thought possible took place when legendary band The Stone Roses reformed after 16 years. With unprecedented access to the members, MADE OF STONE is a revealing journey through the life of one of the most revered and influential bands in British music history. Acclaimed filmmaker Shane Meadows brings his unique directorial style, humour and emotional depth to the film, capturing the band at work and in their everyday lives as they rehearsed for their much-anticipated homecoming gigs at Manchesters Heaton Park.

From 24 May BeWare oF Mr Baker 5 director: Jay Bulger. Featuring: Ginger Baker, eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Femi kuti. USa 2012. 92 mins.

Legendary drummer Ginger Baker was inspired by great post-war jazzers like Phil Seamen and Max Roach, but is better known for playing with Cream and Traffic. Bulgers film visits the famously irascible musician on his South African farm, and features engaging interviews with past musical partners as well as fantastic period footage.

From 7 June the iCeMan 5 director: ariel vromen. Starring: Michael Shannon, Chris evans, ray liotta, Winona ryder. USa 2012. 106 mins.

Michael Shannon (TAKE SHELTER, PREMIUM RUSH) is real-life freelance killer Richard Kuklinski, who does the dirty work for a very nasty gangster (Ray Liotta). Shannons air of quietly psychopathic menace ensures that THE ICEMAN exerts an unyielding grip.

  • Discover stunning cinema. Whether its a cult classic, an art-house gem or a riveting

documentary, there will always be a chance to see something

different and brilliant in our weekly slot.

Tuesday 14 Maybeyond the hills 2Adirector: Cristian Mungiu. Starring: Cosmina Stratan, Cristina Flutur, valeriu andriuta. romania/France/Belgium 2012. 152 mins. romanian with english subtitles.Romanias official entry for the Oscars is a taut morality drama. Alina returns from working in Germany to find her lover Voichita living in a convent, from which she becomes determined to extricate her with terrible consequences. One of Romanias sharpest young writer-directors, Mungiu draws tremendous performances from his young cast. Contains infrequent strong language and sexualised nudity.

Tuesday 21 Mayshell 5director: Scott Graham. Starring: Chloe Pirrie, Joseph Mawle, Morven Christie, kate dickie. Uk 2012. 91 mins.Scottish director Graham takes us to the bleak, splendidly photographed Highlands for this portrait of a 17-year-old girl. Shell lives with her father in a barely viable petrol station, yearning for affection and touching the hearts of all who meet her. This small but deeply affecting film stays with you long after viewing.

    Tuesday 28 Mayreality 5

director: Matteo Garrone. Starring: aniello arena, loredana Simioli, raffaele Ferrante. italy/France 2012. 116 mins.

italian with english subtitles.Winner of the 2012 Grand Jury Prize at Cannes, Garrones long-awaited

follow-up to GOMORRAH is built around a larger-than-life Neapolitan fishmongers tragi-comic efforts to realise his dream of appearing on

reality TV. The excellent performances, script and direction slyly highlight the absurdity of his endeavour.

Tuesday 4 Junevillage at the end

of the world 2Adirectors: Sarah Gavron, david katznelson. demark/Uk/Greenland 2012.

82 mins. Greenlandic with english subtitles.BRICK LANE director Gavron spent three years filming in Niaqornat,

a remote Inuit hamlet whose 59 inhabitants were under threat of government relocation. Their harsh lifestyles contrast with

their quirky humour - and with their determination to reopen an abandoned fish factory in order to save their community.

Contains one use of strong language.

    Tuesday 11 Juneour children 5

director: Joachim lafosse. Starring: milie dequenne, tahar rahim, niels arestrup. France 2012. 111 mins. French with english subtitles.

losing her mind in this intense, multilayered drama.Tue

    DOCS

From 14 June MUCh ado aBoUt nothinG (Cert TBC) director: Joss Whedon. Starring: alexis denisof, amy acker, Fran kranz. USa 2012. tBC mins.

Shot in the spirit of the play, Whedons version of Shakespeares romantic comedy was filmed in his Santa Monica mansion in just 12 days. The simplicity of the production is enhanced by the decision to shoot in monochrome and to retain much of Shakespeares dialogue, although its more flowery corners have been rounded off by Whedons script in deference to modern (and younger) ears. That strategy is supported by a cast of mainly young TV actors from Whedons unofficial repertory company, with Acker and Denisof especially effective as the combative ex-lovers Beatrice and Benedick, who are persuaded by some visiting Italian noblemen to kiss and make up. A pacey, amusing work that even Shakespeare-phobes will find engaging.

From 14 June Man oF Steel (Cert TBC) 3d/2d director: Zack Snyder. Starring: henry Cavill, amy adams, russell Crowe, diane lane, kevin Costner, Michael Shannon. USa/Canada/Uk 2013. tBC mins.

Every kid growing up feels different sometimes and asks who they are and why they are here, but for young Clark Kent (Cavill) the answers are hardly reassuring. Sent to planet Earth by his father (Crowe), Clark is raised by his adoptive parents (Lane and Costner) to always do the right thing. As a young man he finds that doing the right thing means using his alien powers to fight General Zod (Shannon, MUD, THE ICEMAN) and become a symbol of hope for humanity in general and Lois Lane (Adams) in particular. Co-written and co-produced by Christopher Nolan (THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY), Snyders (WATCHMEN, 300) reboot of the DC Comics franchise is darker and more serious than previous versions, without sacrificing any of the adrenaline-pumping spectacle that we would expect from Kryptons greatest son.

    Turning FACT Inside Out

    13 June 25 August

This summer we are celebrating our first decade in the building.with an exhibition that reveals more about the exciting activitiesthat happen behind the scenes. For Turning FACT Inside Out,a selection of international artists tackle some of the pressing, and sometimes controversial, political issues of the day in anexhibition that will take over the entire building and beyond.

Paris-based duo HeHe address the topic of fracking bytransforming Gallery 1 into a fracking landscape and warn of subterranean noises and ground tremors. Polish artistKatarzyna Krakowiak is turning the building into a listeningdevice and Liverpool-based artist and activist Nina Edgepresents a communication experiment using the voicerecognition system Siri.

The exhibition spills onto Ropewalks Square with Steve Lambertswork Capitalism Works For Me! True/False, and change thelocal landscape using Manifest.ARs augmented reality gameswhich allow you to erase cars and grow personal forests. Takea bike ride through an alternative tourist route of Liverpool withUncoded Collectives new project TranseuropeSlow, which bringsto life hidden corners, and hidden communities of the city.More artworks still to be announced. #TFIO

Through activities and practical advice sessions held in YourHousing schemes across Sefton, Liverpool and Cheshire, artist collective Re-Dock and Jon Turton have worked withgroups of residents aged 55 95 to explore the outer limitsof new technologies.

The groups have worked with iPads, Skype, social media and online research tools, drawinginspiration from theirexperiences of early electronic communications technology.

A series of prototype devices have been constructed whichinvestigate questions such as "what message would yousend to your younger self?; "can we send a message intospace?"; and "what are the uses of telepresence in aneveryday residential setting?"

Take a look at what the participants have created, and testout the artworks yourself.

What's the best thing about FACT?The staff are fantastic - they are so committedto delivering great outcomes; whether that be amazing experiences for our audiences in the building, engaging participatory projectsin our communities or dynamic online contentto enjoy anywhere in the world.

What's making you excited at the moment? At this very moment it would have to be a tripto our fab new cafe, The Garden by Leaf, as Iam having mid afternoon munchies. If youhavent visited yet, you really should t he food is really great and service is excellent.

Who would be your collaboration dream team?Assuming I can bring them back from thedead I'd go with Alfred Hitchcock andSalvador Dali, I think they only workedtogether once.I remember Hitchcock sayinghow he had to explain to Dali that he couldn'tpour live ants over Ingrid Bergman andthinking there should be more of thoseconversations in film making!

Tell us ....(a fact, a secret or a joke)I heard this one at the weekend which was particularly apt given I'd spent Sundaywatching it on the sofa - "Wish me luck in theLondon Marathon, I managed it in 2 hoursand 47 minutes last year but this year I mayturn over and watch something else."
