• Full text keyword searching: searches all fields and content for search terms. (You can search the database even if you don’t know the subject.)

• Controlled Vocabulary: Also known as subjects, topics, thesaurus, descriptors (major and minor)

• Glossary of terms: Similar to a thesaurus, helps define terms as used in this tool. (Example: equity in a sociology database versus in an economics database.)

• Reference Works: Encyclopedia, dictionaries, handbooks, and other reference works answer simple questions scholarly articles assume.
