For we do not know what is in store ahead of us; only God knows. This Sundays readings speak on this theme of readiness. We are to be ready when the Lord comes. WORD of GOD in a NUTSHELL: In the 1st Reading from the book of Wisdom, the people recall that it was at night that the Exodus to the promised land began. They were watchful and ready when the Lord called them. These are the qualities the Lord is expecting from his disciples in the Gospel passage we read today. They, too, are ready for action, ready to meet the Lord when he knocks at their door, even in the mid- dle of the night. The Psalm is a song of confidence in God. It reflects on the concern the Lord has shown for his people over the generations. In trust and hope our soul is waiting for the Lord. The 2nd Reading from Hebrews reminds us that faith is essential. It sustained Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Sarah, who all believed in the promises made to them. It is faith which enables them to keep watching and waiting for the coming of the Lord. CHALLENGE: This week, I may want to consider that every time I attend the Eucha- rist, I am invited to the Lords Supper – and that, like the Master in the Gospel pas- sage, he waits on me with love and compassion. I should do so with my life: ready with LOVE and COMPASSION. ADDENDUM: On a personal note, I have been preparing and getting myself READY for this Sundays world biggest running day: CITY 2SURF. It would be fun, but I suspect it would be tough running more or less 10KM in one go. I do this one for you dear parishioners and for our church. I wish to generate funds so that we can finish our long-standing project: REPAIR of church pews. Lets do it! WE CAN DO IT! I will start (with my fragile knees) and join me accomplish this project. No complain. No criticism. Just pray. The Capuchins will host this opportunity to hear about our way of life, to pray, and have your questions answered. Its at St Fiacres Parish Hall (top of the driveway at 98 Catherine Street, Leichhardt). Concludes with dinner. For those who would like, there will be the optional opportunity to then go out on the FriarsVan – which is a Capuchin ministry to the homeless in Sydney. If passed, it will make abortion legal up until birth in NSW, for any reason, as long as two doctors agree if the baby is more than 22 weeksold. There has been no community consultation on this Bill. Attempts to rush the Bill through Parliament intentionally exclude the voices of all concerned citizens, including people of faith, from the debate. We must act immediately to try and stop this Bill. Please urgently contact your NSW State MP and ask them to vote against this Bill.
