Why Reorganize?

The current review committee structure is outdated and does not adequately reflect the areas of science that the NICHD supports.

Reorganization Process: Step 1 DSR Reorganization Committee

was formed in 2001 consisting of representatives from the Division of Scientific Review and each of the 3 program centers at NICHD: Center for Research for Mothers and Children (CRMC); Center for Population Research (CPR); National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR).

7

Reorganization Process: Step 2 The committee examined abstracts

of all applications reviewed in DSR over 3 review cycles to determine which applications fit together both scientifically and from a workload standpoint. This process was repeated using additional review cycles until there was agreement among the members on the basic structure of the new committees.

Reorganization Process: Step 3 The recommendations from the

DSR Reorganization Committee were presented to the rest of the NICHD extramural staff for comment and/or modification.

Reorganization Process: Step 4 The proposed changes to the

CHHD IRG were posted on the NICHD homepage during the summer of 2002 to solicit public comment and feedback.
