6 Robert Icke - on Jewish

influence in his work

Robert Icke FRSL is a writer and theatre director. He has been referred to as the "great hope of British theatre." He is best known for his modern adaptations of classic texts, including versions of Mary Stuart, Uncle Vanya, 1984, Hamlet with Andrew Scott and Oresteia, for which he won an Olivier award.

Earlier in the year, Robert adapted and directed Professor Bernhardi, Schnitzler’s biting tale of Viennese antisemitism, to create one of London’s most provocative plays about Jewishness, identity, belief and medical ethics. Juliet Stevenson will revive her performance as Ruth Wolff in 2021, where The Doctor will transfer to the West End. Robert will be speaking to Amitai Landau-Pope about his experience adapting the book, the cultural relevance in our present political climate, his research into antisemitism and what it means to present identity on stage.

of coexistence, peace and reconciliation between the two peoples which will be required if

a future settlement is to be sustainable.

ALLMEP is a coalition of over 125 organisations—and tens of thousands of Palestinians

and Israelis—building people-to-people cooperation, coexistence, and peace among their

communities. They are working to establish an International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian

Peace to scale and leverage support for these crucial projects on a long-term and

sustainable basis. EcoPeace Middle East (a member of ALLMEP) is an environmental

peacebuilding organisation that brings together Jordanian, Palestinian, and Israeli

environmentalists

In the post-Corbyn era, what does Zionism look like on the British left? How do different generations approach Zionism and how is the youth different? Can the Labour Party, or any other organisation, offer a home for left-wing Zionism? Join panellists from Yachad, the World Zionist Organisation, and Labour Friends of Israel, discussing present and future trends in British Zionism.

There has been an increased focus on domestic violence in 2020 with the return of the Domestic Abuse Bill to Parliament and the impact that Covid-19 has had on victims. This session will focus on the challenges of addressing domestic abuse in faith communities.

Ruth Smeeth is one of the Vice-Chairs of the Jewish Labour Movement. From 2015 to 2019 she was the MP for Stoke North. Charlotte Nichols has served as the MP for Warrington North since December 2019 and is currently a Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities. James Frith was the MP for Bury North from 2017 to 2019 and was a member of the Education Select Committee. Marcus Roberts is Director of International Projects at YouGov he previously worked for the Labour Party and the US Democrats.

At the 2019 General Election lost a number of seats in the English North and Midlands, which became known as the ‘Red Wall.’ This panel looks ahead to the 2024 General Election and asks those on the frontline how we can win back these seats.

Rabbi David Mason is the Rabbi of Muswell Hill United Synagogue and the Co-Founder of EcoSynagogue. Alex Sobel MP is the Labour MP for Leeds North West and has sat on the Environmental Audit Committee since 2017. Talia Chain is the CEO of Sadeh Farm, a UK-based Jewish farm and environmentally-focused community hub. Rabbi Sandra Kviat leads Crouch End Chavurah and part of the Rabbinic Team of Liberal Judaism.

Join this panel of experts in the Jewish environmental world to discuss the role of the Jewish community in responding to climate change. We will be exploring the role of faith and community in encouraging people to take action and raise awareness of climate change and environmental stewardship.

Marlon Solomon is a Jewish actor with an interest in conspiracy theories, who's one man show 'A Lizard's Tale' has been performed at a previous One Day Conference. Michael Marshall, from Merseyside Skeptic's Society is a skeptical investigator who has been behind the campaign to remove homeopathy from the NHS and has gone undercover in the flat earth movement. Karen Douglas is a psychologist, specialising in the psychology of conspiracies

Conspiracy theories seem to be entering public discourse at an alarming rate. Join our expert panel to discuss the phenomenon of conspiracy theories and how we counteract them.

9 Biden and the Jewish Community and Future Policy

Halie Soifer Executive Director Jewish Democratic Council of America Halie Soifer is a seasoned congressional aide, Obama administration alum, and foreign policy expert, currently serving as Executive Director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America. From January 2017 until May 2018, Soifer served as National Security Advisor to Senator Kamala Harris, where she advised the Senator on matters related to foreign policy, defence, veterans, and cybersecurity.

Halie Soifer will be answering how American Jews voted in the elections, what were their priority issues. What will be Biden's policy issues as he begins his administration? What can we expect from Biden foreign policy issues of concern to the Jewish community?

4 Rebuilding the arts in the wake of destruction: what have we learned?

Tracy Brabin MP is an actress and Labour MP for Batley and Spen. She was appointed Shadow Minister for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport in January 2020, and has been Shadow Culture Minister since April 2020. Katy Lipson - award-winning theatre producer who has produced more than 60 shows in London and at Hope Mill Theatre, founder of Aria Entertainment and 'From Page to Stage'. Raymond Simonson - Raymond is CEO of JW3, London's Jewish Community Centre –the only JCC and Jewish arts and culture venue of its kind in the UK.

The Covid-19 crisis has caused unprecedented damage to the arts and culture sector in the UK, with devastating closures, mass redundancies, and urgent funding shortfalls. Join three speakers who are all battling against the odds to keep producing culture, and to advocate for the sector at a time when the arts could be crucial to national recovery.

7 Cultural niches: creating space for Jewishness within the left-wing arts scene

Liberty Hodes is a comedian, live performance artist and Chelsea College of Art graduate. One half of A Comedy Night that Passes the Bechdel Test. Stav Meishar is an award-winning queer performance maker, multidisciplinary stage artist, academic researcher and educator. Michael Rubenfeld is a performance maker, cultural producer, playwright and actor, originally from Winnipeg, Canada and now residing in Krakow, Poland. Much of his performance work revolves around exploring contemporary Polish-Jewry. Guy Woolf is an actor, drag queen and composer based in London. He plays Electra Cute in the London based Cabaret troupe DENIM (Soho Theatre, Arts Theatre, Glastonbury with Florence Welch sponsored by Mac Cosmetics).

The Israeli Regional Initiative are an unaffiliated impact group that promotes a regional alliance between Israel and key Arab states that will bring stability, security and economic prosperity to the Middle East.

Zioness is a coalition of US Jewish activists and allies who fight for the advancement of social, racial, economic and gender equality in America and for the inclusion of Zionists in social justice spaces.

Stephen Bush is the political editor of the New Statesman. He is also the Chair of the Board of Deputies Commission on Racial Inclusivity. Rachel Shabi is a contributing writer at The Guardian and author of ‘Not The Enemy, Israel’s Jews from Arab Lands’. Eleni Courea is a political reporter at The Times. She has previously worked at Politico and The New Statesman. Ailbhe Rea is the political correspondent at the New Statesman. She also features on the twice-weekly New Statesman Podcast.

After an eventual year for the party, a panel of expert political commentators look ahead what’s in store for Labour in 2021, principally through the ABCs of Antisemitism, Brexit and Coronavirus.

Stav Meishar is an award-winning queer performance maker, multidisciplinary stage artist, academic researcher and educator.

A historical exploration of the lives of Jewish circus artists during the Nazi regime, their legacies and their fates. Diving into the process of transforming real stories into stage work, the talk will be woven with excerpts from Stav's theater-circus show "The Escape Act - A Holocaust Memoir".

2 Sister parties: a conversation between LFI chair Steve McCabe and Israeli Labor MK Merav Michaeli

Merav Michaeli is the only Labor MK not to join Netanhayu's coalition government. She was first elected to the Knesset in 2013. Steve McCabe is Chair of Labour Friends of Israel and the MP for Birmingham Selly Oak.

The session will be a unique opportunity to hear from one of our sister party’s most influential politicians about the Israeli Labor Party and the future of the Israeli left. Merav Michaeli was first elected as a member of the Knesset in 2013. Her parliamentary activity is extensive, covering a range of sectors: society and economy, gender equality, religion and state, LBGT rights, worker rights and promotion of the peace process. Join Steve and Merav for a discussion on the latest developments in Israeli politics and how we can rebuild relations between our two sister parties following the damage caused by the last five years.

3 The US Elections from a Jewish Labour Zionist perspective

Kenneth Bob is the National President of Ameinu, JLM's sister party in America. Ken is a past chair of the Habonim Dror Foundation, the national alumni association of the Labor Zionist youth movement, providing financial support for their educational programming throughout North America.

7 Urban kibbutzim and modern day pioneering

Anton Marks is a British-born Israeli and a founder member of the largest urban kibbutz in Israel. He has been an informal educator for 30 years and his passion for social change, community living and Jewish values are a recipe for engaging and challenging talks.

Anton will be sharing the inner workings of his anarcho-syndicalist, full income-sharing community of 150 people all living under one roof, and how it functions as a platform for wider societal change. He will also discuss the future of similar urban kibbutzim and how they fit into wider social movements within Israel.

Peter Mandelson former Minister under Blair and Brown in conversation with Sunday Times journalist Gabriel Pogrund, co-author of Left Out .

Peter Mandelson was born into Labour as grandson of former deputy leader, Herbert Morrison. His other grandfather founded harrow united shul and his father worked for the JC. His childhood was spent in Hampstead Garden Suburb. He has been part of the story for decades shaping communications under Kinnock, creating New Labour with Tony Blair and others. From 2015-2019 Peter has been clear and outraged over the leadership of the Labour Party, over which he will tell us stories in conversation with Gabriel Pogrund who has research and documented the period.
