FROM YOUR PASTOR Advances for Your Convenience Will Fuel Advances for the Parish's Mission!
Automatic- & Online-Giving Plus Mailed Offertory Envelopes
are Coming to St.W's
The investment that parishioners make in the ministries, programs, services, staff, and overall mission of St. Wenceslaus Parish is critical, necessary, indispensable, inspiring. Thank you! Yes, "investing in the parish's mission" is what we should see ourselves doing when we participate in the Offertory program of the parish. That participation more commonly and popularly goes by the name of "putting something in the collection." And we normally literally see ourselves (and others) doing that by putting Offertory envelopes, checks, or loose currency/coins in the baskets at Mass. Exciting additions to our approach to "the collection"—as well as advances in the ways you can invest in the parish's mission and its life—are just on the verge of "going live," as the saying goes. So, I'm gladly using this week's column to give you a "heads-up" and a preliminary look at what's ahead. You could just read the centered headline above as a sim-ple preview of what's coming to our parish. But here are a few big-picture aspects of what's in store. We're updating and upgrading to provide you with the abil-ity to set up automatic deduction of your parish financial offering from your preferred bank account and/or credit card. You'll be able to suit your needs and circumstances by choosing such details as frequen-cy of your giving. And you'll customize the pattern of when your de-duction will occur in a given time period. One mutual "upside" of auto-pay is that 1) it enables you to stay faithful to your parish commitment even when traveling or other-wise unable to participate in Mass here, while 2) it gives increased consistency, predictability—and, yes, perhaps increased invest-ment—regarding the funding of the parish's mission and needs. As these results arise from your participation, you in turn enable parish leadership to better serve you and your fellow parishioners. Yet even if you wouldn't want to set up automatic giving, we're expanding the ways you can give by also launching online giving. That'll definitely be at your service through the parish web-site. And perhaps we'll eventually be able to say, "There's an 'app' for that!" This function will also make it easier for friends, guests, and visitors of the parish to join us in funding our mission and sus-taining our community's life, if they feel so inspired. Finally, for a variety of parishioners, we're making some-thing else more conveniently available. We're launching the mailing of Offertory envelopes straight to you in small sets during the year. First: Those of you who use Offertory envelopes and will want to keep using them. Starting with your 2019 set you won't have to remind yourself to pick up that whole year's worth of envelopes or spend time or rummaging through the boxes in church to find yours. Second: Current parishioners and new ones who don't have Offertory envelopes. Starting to use them helps yourself and the parish. And you'll be able to get a starter set in the mail quickly once you've signed up. Third, note that we're using one Catholic company's inte-grated services for all of these advances. So, current envelopes users can keep your envelope number even if you add auto– or online-giving. New users of any of these services will get one consistent number for all options.
