APPENDIX: TESTIMONIALS & ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS (Continued)Hi Carla and Scott - Hey, can you do me a favor? I have an ex coworker (John Engle) at General Mills, that I consider to be one of the best in the business. John was on the Walmart Retail Link Steering Committee, and a leader for the Walmart supplier community. John left General Mills years ago and went to work for Walmart helping them build many of the tools they are currently using today. John is looking to move back into the supplier world, please help him find a good new home. I will give John a recommendation to anyone. He will be an instant game changer.

Kenneth Hogue - Del Monte Foods, Senior Category Manager

John - Just wanted to say thanks for your time yesterday, the information you shared will really help our team to identify regional brand opportunities for salty snacks. We feel like we should be able to close the gap on many of these in our meeting on the 17th. We will touch base with you next week to make sure you are aligned with the opportunity we identified from your data. We plan to share it as part of our F15 recap with Brandon to what the future holds. We’d love to have you at that meeting if available, we always appreciate your support!

Jessica Epps - General Mills, Senior Category Advisor

John - I was deeply saddened with your decision to leave Walmart. I will forever cherish the lessons I learned from you and our great conversations. I know that you will continue to be phenomenal, because you know your purpose and mission. Stay in touch, will you? I will never forget your bright spirit and our paths will cross again. Until then I wish you hapiness, success, and all the best my friend.

Eliseia Arnold - Walmart, Director of Modular Development

I wanted to reach out to provide my recommendation, my highest compliments, and my regards for John Engle. I have known John for over 15 years.  John is one of the finest and most creative minds in data analytics, sales, and talent development.  He has incredible talents and abilities to resource and compile information, draw insights, develop practical solutions, and inspire teams toward retail execution.

He has authored and created many of the analytic processes we suppliers use regularly in the management of our Walmart business.  John is a tireless worker who devotes the required time and effort to meet and exceed project management expectations, and a unique ability to develop the internal and external partnerships necessary to get results. John has a reputation for growing businesses and teams and always finds a way to succeed at whatever he does. Personally John is a dear friend of mine, what one would call a best friend.  Our families have spent a lot of time together with each other and the Engle's are a family everyone would want as friends and neighbors. John and his wife Ronda are active in our community and in their church, devoting an incredible amount of their time to support their faith as leaders and in service projects.  Their daughters Lauren and Katya, whom they adopted from Russia nearly 10 years ago, are as involved in their community and church as are their parents.   All of this is testament to John's leadership and profile. I know that many supplier teams will be interested in John and I can assure you he will deliver on every target, objective, promise and commitment he makes.  You have a wonderful candidate in John. I wish him all the best!

APPENDIX: INNOVATION OVER THE YEARS (Tools, processes, data integration)Modular Diagnostics Developed access based system using modular scripts on new projects & store/item

level data to identify & correct DOS and pack out exception, now standard item on relay timelines, used across the organization today.

Demand Clustering Evolution To identify & adjust space for groups of stores with varying demand by product segment, began doing in excel by “sorting”, piloted MCAPs on RLSC, eventually played a major role in developing ECS with IBM as supplier, as well as promoting the tool internally as WMT associate, now standard part of modular process broadly.

DC Item Matrix Still the process for DC set up in clustered modular environment

Nielsen Deep Dive Develop buyer/category reporting process to simplify/broaden use of syndicated data as merchants and WMT were accustom to using access vs. “answers” platform, this ultimately became the go to system for the organization

MAAP Gap Process Tool combined syndicated, retail link, modular data to ID/value/prioritize brand/item assortment opportunities.

4 Step Localization Process Combined geo-brand/demand clustering, MAAP, and Mod diagnostics in to a disciplined format to market and train internally and externally, became precursor to assortment discipline.

Assortment Discipline Selected in pilot group to refine and introduce new innovative insights.

Interactive Modular Timeline Complete revamp of modular timeline included grouping tasks based on “dependency”, adding accountability, task descriptions, and tracking. Gained high level support in merchandising, presentations to advisors, now the standard system.

OSA Initiative Collaboration with innovations team, understanding of how mods impact downstream IMS, created paradigm shift in modular dimensions, settings, capacities overall.

Macro Space Initiative Early dairy collaboration in RLSC, re-organized frozen foods dept., led to foundation of processes used today in macro space group formed when separated from mod teams.

Product Characteristics RL item attribution system developed with P&G in Retail Link Steering Committee

Item Velocity (Modcap) Developed measures commonly used in Retail Link Today in collaboration with RL Steering Committee, WMT IS, and WMT leaders. Conceived, gained alignment, marketed and trained across supplier community. Single handedly responsible for this critical measures existence.

Trade Planning Tools Modeling tool built in trade finance role to find best ROI (cost/case, cost/inc’l) based on scenario inputs of price/frequency (3-2/$4 vs. 4-2/$5), historical lift data (market/account) using syndicated, RL, or comb. Later modified for buyer facing presentation focused on metrics like margins, sell thru vs. Cost/Case.

Negotiated First EDLP When WMT got big in Supercenters, despite fear at GM about them and EDLP, developed $2.4M trade proposal for 32 cereal brands, multiple sizes, considering price cliffs, elasticity, and size/price relationships. Presented to president, much resistance, overcame objections, gained alignment, and implemented. This was integral part of developing the partnership they have with WMT today.

Orchestro/VC Led the charge with General Mills IS department to establish need and secure funding to install 3rd party data management system, gained tech. headcount, and implemented across sales and advisor teams to “harmonize” data, automate reporting, and improve the quality of insights delivered to the customer.
