The nature of work depends on type of job you are doing in the military.

Must be both physically, educationally, and mentally tough.

Must be able to handle being away from friends, family and home for long periods of time.

Must be ready to defend country and participate in a dangerous mission if needed.

Injuries are likely, and you must be able to realize they are possible when working in dangerous areas.

Graduation from high school, or a GED. Must complete basic training course. Some higher ranks require a college degree of some level. Earning a degree and attending college while in the

military is sometimes accessible. The training will depend on what branch of the military

you are in and what rank you are.

Recruits are needed every year. Many people retire after 20 years and are

still young enough to work. Educational requirements will continue to

rise. Number of soldiers may increase if war

its requirements of personnel.

Pay is based on rank and time in service. Retirement pay is generally available after 20 years of service. Pay bands are the same for all branches of service. Members of

the Armed Forces receive additional pay for foreign duty, hazardous duty, submarine duty, flight duty, and for being medical officers.

In addition to basic pay, members of the military are housed free of charge on base or receive allowances for housing, with higher allowances for those with dependents.

firms, manufacturing firms, and for federal, state, or local governments.

As network speeds increase, telecommuting is becoming more common. Although few managers can work remotely, many have to supervise employees who work from home.

More than 90 percent of computer and information systems managers work full time. Many of them must work overtime to solve problems. In 2010, about 24 percent worked more than 50 hours per week

Computer and information systems managers normally must have a bachelor’s degree in a computer- or information science-related field which usually takes 4 years to complete.

A Master of Business Administration (MBA) is common and takes 2 years beyond the undergraduate level to complete.

Most jobs for computer and information systems managers require several years of experience in a related information technology (IT) job.

The number of years of experience required varies by organization.

Many organizations require their computer and information systems managers to have a graduate degree as well

Employment of computer and information systems managers is projected grow 18 percent from 2010 to 2020.

More attention is being directed at cyber threats, a trend that is expected to increase over the next decade.

Additional growth will likely result from the need to increase security in IT departments.

A number of jobs in this occupation is expected to be created in the healthcare industry, which is far behind in its use of information technology.

A number of IT jobs are at risk of being sent to other countries with lower wages, dampening some employment growth.
