STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD

Today’s readings speak of rich and poor. Timothy writes it is our duty to “Guard

this rich trust with the help of the Holy Spirit that dwells within us” (2TIM 1:14). And, Luke reports Jesus as saying, “‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do”. (LK 17: 10).

Consistent with these messages, the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, “Love for the poor is incompatible with immoderate love of riches or their selfish use” (2445).

All ministries serve the poor in prayer or action, but St. Vincent de Paul is an organization founded to and commissioned with outreach to the poor of the area. These Vincentians show us how to embrace all works of charity and justice, collaborating with people of good will to relieve the needs of the power and suffering. This Stewardship manages a twice-monthly food bank, a Thanksgiving turkey box delivery, and the Christmas Angel Tree to celebrate the birth of Christ. As we approach deep fall, consider volunteering support to the SVDP mission.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN/CAMPAÑA DE CAPITAL

Dear Friends in Christ—

It is with great joy and pride that I am announcing that we are moving forward with our Building for Our Future capital campaign and that it officially kicks off this weekend! As we addressed in the past, we have outgrown our parish facilities and this campaign will help raise the funds needed to make the much needed new meeting/education and parking space a reality. So let’s go!!

You can look for weekly campaign updates in this same space in the bulletin each week. Please also keep on the lookout for the mail piece that we will send out at the end of this month and do not hesitate to ask myself and campaign leadership any questions that you may have.

Finally, I ask that you prayerfully consider how you can help out with this campaign and pray for its success. For, as you know, the success of the campaign rests not on the backs of a few, but many.

Blessings,

Father Kirby

Bendiciones,

Padre Kirby

News from the Principal’s DeskWe were very busy this last week taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills from Tuesday through Friday. This next week, we will spend three days taking the Cognitive Abilities Tests. I think everyone will be glad when this round of testing is over with!

A new program started last week at Santa Cruz Catholic School. The SCCS Gifted and Talented Program began on Wednesday with 15 students ready to jump into the world of STEM-based, discovery learning. The class, led by Ms. Michele Jeanmarie, will encourage students to be problem-solvers while becoming “experts” in the fields they are studying. The class will meet once a week for 75 minutes in a pull-out type program. Students qualified for the G/T Class based on test scores and teacher and parent recommendations, it is open to students in 3rd through 8th grades.

Thank you to four of our SCCS Advisory Board members who joined me in attending the Diocesan Advisory Board In-Service on Saturday, September 28th at the Pastoral Center: Norma Hernandez, Art Estrada, Teresa Morales, and Andy Hines. Sr. Carol Ann Cimino, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Buffalo, New York, presented on the topic of The Board’s Role in Development and Marketing. It was a very informative session, which also in-cluded tips on developing a school’s strategic plan. We came away with some new ideas and plans for the future.

Have a Blessed week,Mrs. Flanagan

SANTA CRUZ CATHOLIC SCHOOL

Bendiciones,Sra. Flanagan
