DEADWOOD — Sunday marked the 20thanniversary of the rebirth of Deadwood.

In 19A9, with its infrastructure failing, its buildingsburning down and retail businesses struggling tomake it year-to-year gaming became legalized in thehistoric town once again which city officials say wasthe salvation of the city.

Rep. Herseth Sandlin, D-SD, and Rep. Bill Foster, D-Ill., will co-host a Congressional briefing for members of Congress and their staffon the DUSEL. Daugaard and `nudson have the most eGperi-ence in statewide politics and campaigns, but noneof the candidates is well 6nown across the state,said Gary Aguiar, a political science professor atSouth Da6ota State 'niversity.

Aguiar said state government's mounting budgetproblems will play a role in the governor's race,and candidates li6ely will differ on how to cutspending to balance the budget.

`nudson said he believes voters will watch howthe *egislature tac6les the budget and will _udgecandidates on their ability to lead the state throughdifficult financial times.

Max Sirignano was born October 13, 2009 toBlanca and Zac Sirignano, of Deadwood. He iscurrently being treated in the Neonatal Intensive

Care Unit at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Contractors are curtailing nonessentialspending, Crow said.

`Mhey're Kust not buying anything,` he said.`dou ask any of the eeuipment companies andthere's nobody buying any new eeuipment.Mheir Tnumber ofU leases are up - people areleasing instead of buying - but waiting on newpurchases longer.`

Crow said he eOpects seasonal winter layoffsas usual, but perhaps not as many because sum-mer hiring for the construction season wasdown.

Ge said privately financed Kobs will likelylead the turnaround in <outh Dakota, especiallyif it becomes easier to get financing.
