Holm 1 CMS HCAL TIMING & CONTROL MODULE(CCM) Cost and Status of V5 Boards Boards 3 and 4 were modified to improve the QPLL and Crystal layout It was determined that if a change was to be made to the PCB that there should be redundancy added to the circuitry in the case that a QPLL/Crystal became faulty. It was determined that a 2 nd QPLL should be added to the circuitry along with a means to change which QPLL/Crystal was responsible for driving the clock to the FE modules via the backplane. The logic for making the QPLL selection was built using PECL logic which has shown to be RAD Tolerant. The new layout of the QPLL circuitry was done as per Paulo Moreira(QPLL designer) suggestions, along with suggestions from others that have experience using the device.

• Cost and Status of V5 Boards– Boards 3 and 4 were modified to improve the QPLL and

Crystal layout • It was determined that if a change was to be made to the PCB that

there should be redundancy added to the circuitry in the case that a QPLL/Crystal became faulty.

• Cost and Status of V5 Boards– It was determined that Boards 1 & 5 should also be

produced to alleviate the problem of not having enough CCM’s for test stands and spares.

• The previous version of Board 5 has a number of modifications that were fixed in the V5 boards – a new but very similar layout was done.

• Board 1 did not have any changes made to the logic or layout, how ever new Gerbers were produced that have a V5 and date on the silkscreen.

• Cost of V5 Boards– Board 1

• 25 PCB = $1384 = $55.36 each• Parts = $150 - this is an estimate based on buying all new parts, Fermilab has a stock of parts that are

available and will be assembled onto the 20 boards.• Assembly = $1450 per 20 pcb ($32 each plus NRE)• The remaining 5 boards will be assembled at Fermilab with a labor estimate of 3 days.• Total for 25 boards = $6584 + 3 days

– Board 5 • 25 PCB = $1377 = $55.08 each• Parts = $275 - this is an estimate based on buying all new parts, Fermilab has a stock of parts that are

available and will be assembled onto the 20 boards.• There are two ACTEL FPGA’s on the board which are one time programmable, we have a stock of 17

programmed larger parts, we purchased 60 programmed units of the smaller part at $56.45 each.• Assembly = $1458 per 20 pcb ($32 each plus NRE)• The remaining 5 boards will be assembled at Fermilab with a labor estimate of 4 days.• Total for 25 boards = $9710 + 4 days

are available and will be assembled onto the 20 boards.• Assembly = $1305 per 20 pcb ($25 each plus NRE)• The remaining 5 boards have been assembled at Fermilab with a labor cost of 3 days.• Total for 25 boards = $5175 + 3 days

– Board 4 • 25 PCB = $1370 = $54.80 each• Parts = $90 - this is an estimate based on buying all new parts, Fermilab has a stock of parts that

are available and will be assembled onto the 20 boards.• Assembly = $1251 per 20 pcb ($23 each plus NRE)• The remaining 5 boards have been assembled at Fermilab with a labor cost of 3 days.• Total for 25 boards = $4871 + 3 days
