Box 1339 Lake Stevens WA 98258 USA Metal Bulletin Zine #1-20: (2006-2009): Wisconsin #21-26: (2009-2010): Texas #27(2010)--now; Washington state All album reviews, news, updates below are by MMB, unless stated otherwise. ** Wan Wan Way to Hell Carnal Records release: 10 February 2017 Wan is extreme metal fueled by beer and a tendency to get into fights at the local bar and getting arrested on days that end in the letter y. This band will be the first to tell you that they are bastards and they don’t have any friends because of that. Let’s put it this way, they are not going to get any awards for friendship and congeniality any time soon or ever. One time the band got arrested on the day that they had a show and somehow they still managed to be released in time for their concert at a bar. True story. The key words when dealing with Wan: Venom. Bathory. Celtic Frost. Beer. Wan is raw black metal workhorses and now they continue their history with the latest celebration of dirty extreme metal. Wan's all about taking the old Venom and Bathory spirit into the present day. Their previous two albums Wolves of the North (2010) and Enjoy the Filth (2013) indicated that the band was already enjoying life in hell. Wan has in mind a very specific sound: unpolished blasphemy like the early black metal in the 80s. These Swedes say that they are terrible at promoting themselves because they are too busy getting drunk and picking fights with

people at the bar or just getting into a fight with each other about which Bathory album is the best; and don’t even get them started about 90s Bathory and Quorthon trying to sing. Yuck! They also say that they do not have digital distribution, so I’m not sure how you can get this album. Check out the Carnal Records website and see what you can do there, ladies and gentlemen. Wan lives by the old Venom code: “Fight, we will fight right, Living low in a world of our own, Destined to live right, fight, We're taking hell as our home, Burning lives burning, Asking me for the mercy of god, Ancient cries crying, Acting fast upon the way of the dog, Welcome to hell, Welcome to hell, Welcome to hell, Welcome to hell.” Wan Way to Hell track list 1. Irony Destroyed The metalcore band Irony Destroyed (Kenya) now has its debut EP ready for listening and it is called Strife to Legacy and it is now available on YouTube, Bandcamp and other places. Perhaps it took longer than the band expected, but the music is finally here and that’s something to celebrate. Check it out at the link below.

BIO: Irony Destroyed was formed in 2012 by Nelson “Ecclesiastes” Musyoka. Still young and in high school but that did not stop him from forming a hard-hitting metal band. He wrote some songs and met up with three of his friends to make all their dreams come true. They played and practiced some covers and recorded two tracks namely, “Think Twice, if Possible Thrice” and, “Sun as a Home” in 2013 when everyone was through with high school. That was until when the members of the band left to continue with their further studies. By then, Irony Destroyed (Earlier) had only recorded two songs in their practice room (On a laptop). In 2014, Nelson found the Lead guitarist, Lenny Kiano on Irony Destroyed’s Facebook page and boy could he shred. Had some awesome

riffs, he was definitely going to be the lead guitarist. Lenny then became in charge of the band and recruiting new members when Nelson left to study as well. ironydestroyedofficial.bandcamp.com/releases facebook.com/IronyDestroyed/ ** Goat Worship Blood and Steel release date: December 10th, 2016 label: Xtreem Music

Is it possible that you missed this Brazilian entity? If the sounds of classic extreme metal appeal to you, then why not listen to the complete album at the link below? This is the debut album. There was an EP in 2015 which was dedicated to Bathory and now the new album continues those primal sounds, but with better sound quality than the early days of extreme metal all those years ago of the genre's youth of sacrifice, burning and darkness. Goat Worship believes in black metal and believes that the old days were not a mistake and that they were not an accident and that there is no reason why that music and those values have to disappear as victims

4

of modernity, politically correct thought and fashions. Goat Worship is an incarnation of the classic sounds. Goat Worship believes. Goat Worship's candles burn for first-wave-black-metal-style extreme metal in all its total spirit and mind. The times have changed but the song remains the same: Venom, Sodom, Bathory, Kreator, Destruction, Hellhammer, Sarcófago and the like. You will need exactly one listen. Press play. Bang your head. "Lay down your soul to the gods rock `n' roll."/"It's the return of the darkness and evil." xtreemmusic.bandcamp.com/album/blood-and-steel facebook.com/goatworship888/ ** review: Cryonic Temple Into The Glorious Battle Scarlet Records Release: 21 April 2017 Cryonic Temple returns with a statement album after years of studio silence. Metal Archives shows that their previous album is from 2008. They began in 1996 and had four albums released before this new one, which is an affirmation of power metal. The loyalists of traditional metal music melodic forms will consider this work by the Swedes as a great example of the genre in 2017. Their objective is to remind their supporters that the band is very much alive, contrary to how it may have seemed for a while, due to the personnel changes over the years. There are 13 songs that illustrate the main ideas of glorious power metal, beginning with speedfest numbers with thrash-level velocities and uptempo rockers contagious from start to end, forwards and backwards, right side up and upside down. These Swedes have no

shame, no shame at all; they want to take over the world right this minute and they seek to convince anyone within striking distance. They take the listener from the highest of highs to the agony and melancholy of the power ballads (three of them, including the closing track as an epic conclusion to the album) that will make you take out your lighter and wave your arms side to side. War, victory, defeat, death, solitude, fury, consolation, joy and desperation, it's all in this tour de force of an album.

The new album shows the band as a major exponent of European power metal. The sound on this album incorporates keyboards as a strong background component that smoothes out the music and adds a permanent element of melody. The guitar work delivers everything expected in this field: fast riffs, uptempo rhythms, fast solos and catchy melodies. In addition, there are some bluesy elements during the power ballads, amongst other places. Everything you want in power metal guitar is present. The bass guitar is not very audible, but "Prepare for War" certainly shows the bass guitar. The drums do not sound like real drums due to the clean production. You can't hear much in the way

5

of cymbal work and the double bass is clicky, as it tends to be in so much of modern metal genres, unfortunately. The singing is done very well and appropriately for the genre in the sense that it is melodic with both (1) a massive appeal potential and (2) without all the annoying things associated with singing. (1) The singing is very friendly to the ear, in a way that is pop and good for radio, not just for heavy metal audiences. Anyone who hears the power ballad "The War Is Useless" will find the singing to be pleasant and perfect for singing along. (2) The singing is a type of midrange vocal style, but with enough of an upper range to be totally in the territory of melody. There are no forced and out-of-place shrill high notes that some people dislike about traditional metal singing. Trivia. The band shows some quick flashes of homage to heavy metal and to 80s pop. These include vocal phrases like "steel meets steel," quick keyboards phrasings that recall the power metal renaissance in the 90s, like HammerFall and Edguy. Some of the keyboards parts recall 80s pop, of course, as is usual with power metal. In certain spots, they might be channeling Europe or Cutting Crew. They also could be invoking a bit of Gun n Roses’ “November Rain” in the aforementioned power ballad “The War Is Useless.” The work is a rebirth for the band. They took their time with this album and the results speak for themselves. Power metal supporters will do themselves a great favor to hear this album in its totality. It should not take more than a few listens to begin understanding that is a strong return for the band in all the songs. Go here to hear a new song now before the album is out.

facebook.com/CryonicTemple/?ref=ts ** Species Splicer This Washington state band is relatively new, it seems. Metal Archives says that they started in 2016. Their name started popping up in some show announcements in the area, and now they have a recording of slamming, chugging rhythms and low guttural vocals. Right now, at this point, the band is focusing on bringing the heaviness and the brutality without any distractions. This is a name-your-price recording; and the band says: “The Ep boasts of slamming riffs accompanied by insanely brutal vocals. Based on a concept of a vile scientist hatching an abominable creature of alien, demon and human scum to reproduce destructive atrocities upon the multiverse.” Species Splicer Paradise Through Damnation release date: March 5th, 2017 label: independent

NEWS: Entity of Hate Cursed for Eternity released date: January 20th, 2017 Entity of Hate’s four-song EP is melodic, atmospheric extreme metal, perhaps mostly coming across as black metal, but not strictly so, given that there is a substantial amount of guitar-centered shred melodies. The EP results in a teaser, more than anything, something that would leave the listener wanting more. The EP creates the notion that there should be a full-length album on the way if we are going to get a better picture of Entity of Hate’s music. On the other hand, the EP is a good way to create anticipation for more. OFFICIAL: Member of the well acclaimed atmospheric black metal band DIABOLUS ARCANIUM has started a new band called ENTITY OF HATE. The music is black/death metal this time around and is much faster and more intense while being suitably atmospheric. 'Cursed for Eternity' is the band's debut, featuring four intricately composed tracks. They are looking forward to setting new standards for this kind of music in India with this offering. It's unique in its own way, enthusiastic and holds a lot of promise. Check it out if you're into black/death metal with a melodic flourish and an eerie vibe. Attempting to explore brand new realms, the newly-renamed Indian atmospheric black/death metallers Entity of Hate have come together from the previous efforts released as Diabolus Arcanium to offer faster, more intense efforts while still staying true to the atmospheric ideals. Starting out with their own voice, the groups’ first release under this banner was self-released January 17, 2017. Taking a harder-hitting approach than their previous moniker, the group is quite adept at

7

their fiery and melodic brand of blackened death metal. Efforts like the title track and “Lovers and Prey” fire off plenty of swirling tremolo rhythms with a furious singeing charge, it gives this the kind of explosive main rhythm that allows for both atmosphere and melody to run rampant throughout here. Alongside the melodic fervor attempted here, the bands’ steady and simplified tempos keep this one pretty straightforward, letting the tremolo-picked riffing take center stage in the album which makes this one rather fun for the most part. They’re atmospheric, melodic and still retain a fiery edge, making for a wholly enjoyable offering here. There’s just not a whole lot really here, as the three originals are pretty straightforward and the finale is an instrumental cover of a video game song. There’s just not a whole lot else to this one. Without a whole lot of differences with this one and not nearly enough time to really get into it other than on the surface quality, there’s plenty to like here for fans of the bands’ previous moniker or this style of melodic atmospheric-heavy death metal who don’t mind the brevity. track list: 1.Cursed For Eternity 03:40 2.Lovers & Prey 04:29 3.Heart Shaped Dagger 03:53 4.Bloody Tears (Castlevania) 02:22 entityofhate.bandcamp.com ** Katabätika Here is a long EP that is free/name-your-price at Bandcamp by the "doom/gothic" metal band Katabätika from Spain. The band had been on hiatus recently, but that is about to change because they are once again on the way to action and are planning to record their debut album. They are from the city of Barcelona and they began in 2008. Learn

more about the band with the information below. Katabätika Falling into Deep Freezing release date: April 6th, 2015 label: independent

8

Drakum, Human Carnage, Ravenblood, Display, Kauterion or The Bleeding Sun, walking the halls and festivals of the metal underground scene of Barcelona and surroundings. After a musical break Dani Domingo decides to refound the band contacting Guille Pujol (Display), who had worked as a singer in several concerts. Then Dave co-founder of the band returned to the position of battery and finally completing the formation David Rebollo guitars. Thus training with Dani on bass and vocals,Guille guitars and vocals ,Dave on drums and David on guitars is completed, thereby creating a more solid, dense, raw sound, adapting to the original idea of the band.
