TrafoStar is built on the core type technology. It has a circular shapedcore limb surrounded by concentricallyarranged, cylinder-shaped windings.This transformer concept gives themost efficient use of the active material,while allowing short, competitiveassembly times in the factory.

Our core type technology with cylindrical windings has an excellentcapability to withstand short-circuitseven under the most demanding faultconditions.

The high voltage windings are normallybuilt as ordinary, interleaved or shieldeddisc windings, while the low voltagewindings typically are of helical or layerdesign. The tapped portion of thewinding is normally arranged as a separate physical winding shell. Drying and fillingABB pays particular attention to thedrying and filling process. Absolutecontrol of the insulation paper mois-ture level ensures efficient electricwithstanding capability. During drying,the windings are subjected to cycles ofpressure to make the insulation mater-ial settle and to establish the finalwinding height. Hot oil is vacuumfilled from the bottom of the tank,
