Can large predators be allowed to migrateand populate naturally, or have humans claimed too much territory to allow that? With the recent passing of Measure M in San Diego to provide moreaffordable housing in San Diego, Bill is working to help seniors find housing they can afford in their ownbackyards. Specifically he is working with Community HousingWorks and The Center to help bringawareness to the a new LGBT affirmative senior housing project in North Park. Many LGBT seniors areforced back in the closet as they age because their peers in senior communities are still not accepting ofLGBT people. This housing project specifically addresses these issues.

For many, the real question is whether jazz, the most American of art forms, willsurvive at all. Rock 'n' roll groups dominate record sales and radio, and many jazz musicians, like DexterGordon, are forced to leave America in search of work. Many artists use the music as a form of socialprotest: Max Roach composes the "Freedom Now Suite"; Charles Mingus makes his mark with overtlypolitical recordings. John Coltrane records prolifically and appeals to broad audiences before hisuntimely death at age 40. Saxophonist Stan Getz helps boost a craze for bossa nova music. Great singerscelebrate the essential contribution of vocalists to the development of jazz. The avant-garde movementcreates innovative music but appeals to an increasingly limited audience. By the late l960s, jazz isstruggling to find its way. In the early l970s, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington pass away. MilesDavis, after forming his most innovative acoustic jazz group, leads a movement of jazz musicians whoincorporate elements of rock and soul into their music in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience."Fusion" wins listeners, but alienates some dedicated jazz fans. By the mid-80s, jazz begins to bounceback; it's heard in concert halls, on rap records, in film scores and in television commercials. Even now he participates in his grandchildren's school,helping to run and grow a community garden on the campus. Beyond his community Luis is a member ofthe California Senior Legislature, a group of older adults throughout the state who work in tandem withthe California Legislature to ensure bills are passed throughout the state that help the senior citizen thrivein California. This year Luis's bill to bring a specialized license plate that support the California SeniorLegislature (a non-profit group) will advance to the California Legislature for a vote.
