Welcome friends and supporters,

Thank you for attending the 12th annual Salute to the Sound. Your support is absolutely essential to ensuring a healthy Puget Sound. Together, we are making a real difference by tackling diffi cult water pollution issues statewide and one pipe at a time.

Over the last 30 years, Puget Sound-keeper has risen to become the major voice for protecting the waters of Puget Sound, our common treasure and vital resource. Our programs have changed over time, but the one constant that has never changed is the deep commitment and unwavering support we have received from the community. Thank you.

People understand on a gut level that we must move boldly to protect the Sound. Whether its restoring endangered aquatic wildlife, protecting abundant fresh seafood, preserving outdoor recreation, caring for the health of our communities, or ensuring a worthy legacy to pass on to future generations, we are united in the importance of this mission.

We stand strong today because of the work and support of so many committed people: from the volunteers serving on our Board and committees, to those who pitch in to help us on the water each week throughout the year, to our generous funding supporters and even those simply cheering us on with an enthusiastic thank you. We are stronger because of you.

Looking ahead to the challenges of 2016 and beyond, your support will help stop pollution and protect and preserve our precious resource that is Puget Sound.

We are thrilled to have you with us!

INSPIRATIONAWARD

Brian Cladoosby is one of the most senior tribal political leaders in Washington State and the Pacifi c Northwest. He is the President of the National Congress of American Indians, President of the Association of Washington Tribes, Executive Board member of the Washington Gaming Association, past President of the Affi liated Tribes of Northwest Indians, and is continually active in tribal and state politics.

Chair Cladoosby has been an inspirational leader, not just for the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community and tribes throughout the U.S., but to all of us laboring away at advocacy aimed to protect and preserve the environment and ways of life that depend on clean and health water.

A fi sherman himself, Chair Cladoosby has helped lead the tribes’ effort with the state and EPA to advocate for accurate and protective fi sh consumption rates related to the development of human health water quality criteria. He has taken action and continues to explore ways to improve the way agriculture and development uses and affects water in the Skagit Delta and throughout the watershed, an ecosystem that is critical to salmon in their early life-stages. He has placed his tribe at the forefront of ensuring that fossil fuel industries, both here and on the Canadian side of the border, don’t run roughshod over tribal rights and has also, in the process, been instrumen-tal in calling attention to the huge risks inherent in shipping ever more oil along Puget Sound, over its rivers and through the Salish Sea.

Brian and his wife of 35 years, Nina, Brian and his wife of 35 years, Nina, have two daughters LaVonne and have two daughters LaVonne and Mary, son-in-law Tylor, Mary, son-in-law Tylor, granddaughter Isabella granddaughter Isabella and grandson, and grandson, Nathanael.

Through negotiations with industry leaders and government offi cials, we strengthen regulations affecting a wide range of issues including polluted stormwater runoff, municipal of issues including polluted stormwater runoff, municipal and industrial wastewater, oil and coal transport and agricultural pollution.

pollution preventionSoundkeeper works directly with volunteers, boaters, businesses, schools and recreationists to provide educa-tion, outreach and stewardship opportunities to prevent pollution and clean up waterways. Soundkeeper’s stewardship team involves over 1,500 volunteers in the removal of more than 10,000 pounds of marine debris every year.
